It’s nice to have but I find myself using it less than I did ATM.
How often did you ATM?
sounds like someone that never done meth. Meth might help you stop using AI.
I think it would stop you doing a lot of things
I mean I work in a slaughterhouse pulling carcusses with a hook from the cooler out to get cut up. Not sure how losing AI would impact my job.
It’s the worst version of ’ if… then… else’ ever invented that get the ‘else’ 49% wrong.
Not only do I not use a.i. in my job, I can’t even think of any way a.i. could be even a minor help.
You can automate sending emails that people won’t read.
I have no need to do that.
You could ask it how to do your job worse. In fact, asking the question is getting a headstart.
I already know how to do that. :)
I would have to draw on 48 years of lived experience over 18 months of hallucinated garbage oh noes
I’ve done my job just fine the last 10 years because I RTFM.
Yes, actually. I’ve spent most of my adult life making art and writing fantasy, and fully intend to continue doing so because I enjoy the process. In fact, it’d help me feel like my decade in industry was worth something
I value you.
on a abstract level, he is correct, using AI has the same effect as drinking alcohol which has the same effect of doing meth.
the people who use AI, if it were to all be taken away, would have the same problems (on an abstract level) as say a recovering alcoholic. As for those who haven’t relied on it as much, you could think of it as a temporary blackout.
Tomorrow would be rough. Most of the search engines would break immediately. Every other company out there would have a major outage or at least sever slowdown while the try to figure out how to do it by hand. A bunch of fast food restaurants would have to close their drive-throughs. It might take a month or two getting back to somewhat stable, maybe 6 months to hire back up where we should be. society and the job market would win in the end. Billionaires would throw tantrums, the market might actually finish expoding on the ai pop.
If we are talking about every type AI and not just the common public well known ones, then with how ingrained it as been forced into everything we know that we use and everything we don’t realize we use, then we all would be in for a bad time.
If all AI were to suddenly vanish, many power grids would fail, much of agriculture/farming equipment would fail, hospitals would fail, communication outlets would stop working. So many systems use a variant of AI of some kind. It could take a long time for society to recover from it. Even people that refuse to use AI are still using it without realizing it.
Not saying AI is the solution or that people refusing to use it are wrong. What I am saying is that we should have protested and regulated it a long time ago. Unfortunately, Pandora’s box has been opened and there is no way a population could have known to protest it many years ago as it would have just sounded like a conspiracy theory or paranoia to many.
So, better late than never, we protest now and only hope we can somehow change the path we are all on going forward.
But, If we are just talking about the surface level AI, then yeah it would just be only a rough couple of days for many and upset billionaires.
Me being valued for my knowledge and experience again rather than expected to be a glorified babysitter to a child incapable of retaining anything meaningful?
Ya I could go back to that.
It’s even worse than the response. I’m struggling to find an elegant analogy, but suffice to say that many of us that use it every day would be totally fine going back to doing it the old way. And the environmental impact! And cognitive impact! Yeah, it would be a change, but it’s nothing like meth. (Not that I’ve ever done meth, but I’ve known addicts.)
Yeah, I mean, we were doing things just fine before it. Getting through “an entire workday”? I mean yeah, it’s a challenge, but any LLM or lack of one plays no part in that. Mostly out of touch middle managers and the sales people.
I’m just now realizing there’s a very clear shared quality between those and LLMs…
Oh my god I can’t wait
As far as my works concerned it was a lot easier to find manuals and diagrams on Google before the AI steamroller. I know it was essentially there in the shape of the algorithm but clearly something different between these two monsters.
Ummm I don’t really use any of those services. I don’t see how it’s bad to remove something utterly useless 🤷♂️
