We can’t even have real Black tokens anymore? They’re just generating Black tokens? They’re taking our jerbs. /S
ChatGPT tokens are cheaper than black tokens /s
I’m happy that they’re trying to be diverse, but they’re going about it the worst possible way.

And people say racism against whites doesn’t exist lol
It exists. It has no systemic power. That’s why it’s not meaningful.
Pretend I’m a Black person who hates white people. What power do I have over you? Maybe I can refuse service at a store or business. Now think of the power of the State. Shit, they can lock you up, restrict your ability to vote, etc.
It’s like stupid christians who complain that they’re persecuted for living in a christian society. It’s utterly facetious.
Miss North Carolina USA said she lost her crown due to her faith. Then the racist posts surfaced.
This act is papering over a racially segregated classroom instead of addressing the underlying social mechanisms this was accomplished historically and maintained today. You, *you specifically*, need to learn to see things from other perspectives.
I would be up in arms if our school just used images of our kids for advertising without permission. AI or not.
Our school and its related programs send home waivers every year regarding whether or not your kid can have their photo taken.
You would want to look very closely at the terms you’re agreeing to if you were to send your child to a private school.
I do. Always.
Idk. Reads like rage bait.
I would agree with you, but this is exactly what my wife’s principal would do.
Link to article?
There is no article, it’s just a post on reddit
If the school isn’t diverse why are they tryng to make it look diverse?
Same reason shops would hire one black person only to clean the shop windows.
Appearances and narratives.
Same reasons corporations do rainbow washing…
Exactly. People have gotten so weird about all this. Representation is great and needed, but only if its authentic. Artificially creating the appearance of diversity is weird. Using AI to do it makes me barf.
I mean, it’s a recent Reddit post, so while it’s a disgusting concept, it is undoubtedly fabricated.
Heck, the Reddit OP could have had GenAI generate a rage bait story in the first place. /r/fuckfuckaiai
That should be an automatic warning for any crosspost from reddit. Especially unsourced “personal stories” that are clearly intended for an emitional reaction.
In middle school, late 90s, I knew an Asian girl who was in commercials. I remember her talking about it later on in high school that she was explicitly there to add diversity to the commercial and she knew it.
I bring this up because we’ve artificially made things look more equal as a society even when they were not. Always push back for actual numbers, be it diversity in schools or anything else.
When I was a kid I noticed this sort of tokenizing happening in commercials, only I didn’t know that there was a word for it (if ‘tokenizing’ had even been coined yet).
So I pointed it out cause I thought it was odd, and people thought I was being racist. I think that deep down, in my innocent mind of a child, I simply had an intuition that there was something dishonest and reductive about the way people of color were being used in the marketing industry. I just didn’t know how to phrase that in a way that people could understand.
A lot of things I’ve said that have rubbed people the wrong way have been like that. Things that are based on an accurate intuition and simply communicated poorly, which then get lumped into the box with the ignorant and hateful people of the world. Probably because I grew up surrounded by those sorts of people, so my vocabulary reflected that until I started learning new ways to communicate. And even then people thought I was being disingenuous or mocking because the new vocabulary felt awkward on my tongue for a while.
Even now I put my foot in my mouth from time to time. I do tend to see things from a different perspective and people tend to be uncomfortable with anything but blindly conforming campism. But it’s less about lack of vocabulary at this point at least.
Talking like you’re talking is what got me my peer-reviewed autism diagnosis.
I am keely interested in understanding the world and sharing my understanding of that world; I assume everyone is the same and that’s when I get into trouble.
Apparently this is an atypical trait.
Yes, that sounds familiar. I’m probably on the spectrum but I’ve never been screened for it
For me, it’s just good to know that there are other people who think like me and that it’s a perfectly valid (if maybe unpopular) to navigate the world. I don’t have a diagnosis, either, and I don’t know what “having” it would mean since it’s such a wide range of characteristics and traits. The important thing is to know who I am.
Wait I thought you said you did get a diagnosis? Or does a “peer-reviewed autism diagnosis” mean you got your autism card from other autistic people? Cause I think I have that already, at least…
And yeah, learning that there are other people like me who understand me and what it’s like to live as a person like me is a really helpful thing. It’s like solidarity in a way. It makes it easier to accept myself for who I am
As a woman in tech, I had companies happily using me this exact way just a few years ago.
I went to elementary school in the 70s in California, middle class--back when there was still a middle class. Until high school I only saw black people on TV (The Jefferson’s, Sanford and Son, Flip Wilson, etc.) and sometimes around town. In high school there were two black students.
I like how everyone is ignoring how it is somehow ‘problematic’ that there happens to be a school class somewhere that just happens to only have with kids in it.
Not uncommon in many parts of the U.S. Think about Salt Lake City.
Or… How about you start accepting more nonwhite children into your school? Maybe even seek funding to enable a more diverse cohort of kids to afford your fees?
In most circumstances, the schools are assigned simply by geographic area.
When they end up all-white, the real problem is that the community is de-facto segregated.
In turn, that means the real problem is that the zoning code doesn’t allow a diversity of housing types at different price points.
And of course, the implication of that is that the real problem is that minorities tend to be less wealthy than the white people, because of centuries of all sorts of institutional and systemic racism.
TL;DR: it’s a lot more complicated than “accept more nonwhite children into your school.”
If it’s what the US calls Public School, that’s all very true and it’s why children get bused all over Los Angeles, with various strategies to combat the history of redlining.
For instance there are Magnet Schools in affluent neighborhoods where the wealthiest of the local kids go to private schools, drawing kids with specific interests and/or skills from less affluent neighborhoods to help keep the school open for the local public-school kids.
In my experience the racial groups tended to socialize separately anyway, but I’m old, hopefully that’s less true. And even so, at least you don’t have kids growing up who’ve never met a different-color person.
Also, in large swaths of rural America, there simply aren’t non-whites to “accept”.
A lot of people really do not understand that blackface is problematic.
Uhhhh, or become more diverse? Why are they trying to display themselves as something they’re not.
It’s all artificial bullshit. For decades not just since ai. Orchestrated DEI is for fake people, authentic people already lived with acceptance.
We live in a society that tries to create an unatural foundation, and that doesn’t mean that not being about that unaturalness is racist or fascist. It means that they try to create an unatural foundation in which they constantly need to keep tabs on and manipulate in order for it to exist. It’s not a foundation based off truth. It’s a foundation that constantly creates wars against the universe to maintain. It’s like planting a planting a hydroponic plant inside a home and wondering why it died when it was placed in nature… Because it was never natural or authentic to begin with. That’s not racism or homophobia, that’s reality. If one claims that it is than it will be constant work to create the narrative that it’s truth because it’s authentically not reality or truth. You can respect all and understand equality isn’t something that exists and understanding that manually trying to create the equality through the entire universe off until we live a lifestyle that isn’t real and needs war and things that are unnatural and inauthentic to maintain.
You started to lose me at the end with the sci-fy logic of “natural law.” But it sounds like a good movie premise.
Kewl. Thanks for replying.
Science loses me too, after all nature is science and science is understanding. So that means understanding nature, which is essentially God, means that understanding nature is understanding God. Which is science… Fuck it though. No point in it.
Why even think about it right? Fuck it, I have Netflix and marvel movies to watch and video games to play, I don’t even need to live in this world my body is in, I can exist in someone else’s idea, at least for a few hours and then scroll till bedtime.
IMO representation matters, but it should he authentic representation, not tokenism.
Exactly.
i would like to introduce you to the concept of “hyper-realism”
i think it will benefit you
Become more diverse?
Have fun explaining to parents that you need to expell their students for some DEIs.
“But Mr and Mrs Smith I ensure you we picked the whitest ones - I’m afraid Timothy has to leave”.
You are a monster /s
People will say shit like that and then turn around and tell you with a straight face that diversity isn’t about excluding or replacing white people.
I mean, I get why diversity is important, and that the concept itself isn’t about that. But in implementation, there certainly are cases where that’s how it happens. Pretending it never does is disingenuous and doesn’t help solve the issue.
What does solve it?
This is digital blackface.
An even better example is those white etsy vendors that make AI videos of black people who say they need to sell their artisans crafts to stay afloat…and it’s just white people drop shipping from China
And, not the funny kind, either.

Awwww, that’s adorable, “I’m a raccoon just like my T-shirt, Mommy!”
It’s a classic, some might say an antique:
