Let this be a lesson: If you throw in with the worst criminals on the planet, don’t be surprised when they betray you.

I suspect he does this so that he can say “oh! I’m so sorry! It must have slipped our collective minds over here at spaceX. I aught to give you even more money!”

“Tell you what: how about i buy your entire company ? That’s right, that’s right; it’s your lucky day, you little dickensian urchin. Your teensy tiny little venture has caught my eye. It would be a great addition to my expanding engineering portfolio.”

Driving the contractor firm to the brink of desperation improves their bargaining power because the guy has to choose to either 1) continue to not be paid or 2) have his employees starve for a bit longer, probably quitting en masse when he can’t pay them.

Then SpaceX can just plop down launchpads by themselves because they have a whatever-you-call-that. A spin-out? A contracting division with expertise in spacepad construction.

A spin-off is the opposite actually, it’s when you let a part of your company leave it (usually when it’s something not 100% relevant to your core business)

Yes Musk has a very long record of not paying people until they eventually sue him. This isn’t a new thing, this has been a kind of lifelong thing of Musk’s.

Salomone was persuaded by a video deposition of Joseph Killian, a former Twitter executive, who testified that Twitter stopped paying rent in December 2022 as a “renegotiating tactic — a tactic to save money.”

This has literally been Musk his entire life.

And with one born every minute there’s a lot of people who don’t think they would be scammed by the scammers
