This kind of baseless accusation of “AI slop” is actually harmful to legitimate businesses. The brewery in question, which I know well (based in Montreal, Canada), has this visual identity from way before genAI was commonplace.

Some of those are AI generated, other’s aren’t. N2 is AI for sure, N5 also raises some eyebrows.
Look, I hate AI just like the next person but we have to be more responsible. You are accusing or assuming something based on nothing. This could backfire and actually harm a real artist. Do better people.
I just reposted from reddit because I thought it was interesting. but good to know its not ai
We need a tag then because I wouldn’t even have open this if it had a reddit tag
That might or might not be quite expensive, depending on the currency.
Given the Dutch on the price labels I’m guessing Euros
It sucks that so many art styles just seems AI now even though most likely AI art was trained on them to look that way. I have pictures I printed and laminated years ago for work related things and people have frequently insisted that they are AI… These give me the same vibe
Is that AI Gordon Freeman on the right?
While I agree the price is ridiculous (especially as a non drinker lol) I’m not convinced it’s AI. Looking up Brewskey on an image search, you can find images of similar cans going back 3yrs. Very diverse styles, with common themes of monocle and hops.
That said, trying to find literally any info on artists both past and present is proving difficult. Most info is just about how they make their IPAs and any mention of art is all “the art of brewing” which isn’t what I’m after. There are quite a few beer can artists out there though so I bet someone willing to search Instagram or something might be able to find an artist who contributed to Brewskey.
Unfortunately, this is quite the common price range for imported North American beers over here in the Netherlands (where the photo is from, if it’s not Belgium). I wouldn’t spend over €10 for a regular IPA, but I see Triple IPA’s as well and I would occasionaly pay that much for one of those, although I prefer stout beers. The North American IPA’s and stouts that we get over here are often outstanding. I assume we mostly get the good stuff here since the cans will be expensive regardless.
These prices include a 21% VAT as well as an excise tax. The latter is based on the alcohol percentage of the beer (higher percentage -> higher tax). Add the fact that it’s imported from across the ocean and you end up with very high prices. Being a beer lover these days is an expensive undertaking.
Regarding the AI topic, I’ve seen cans with these kinds of designs for over a decade in the beer specialty stores and would not accept them being labeled AI generated when from an established brewer without some decent evidence.
I think the worst thing to come out of this AI thing is how all the conspiracy theorists now have a new target, calling everything AI without even understanding what it means or how to tell what’s AI. Somebody here even posted the contact info, and now the brewer has to deal with that shit.
They have a saying in politics that if you’re explaining, then you’re losing. I’d be surprised if there wasn’t something similar in marketing.
If you’re an unethical participant in some industry, and your competitor has some distinctive-looking artwork on their product, all you have to do is make a few anonymous posts that the artwork is AI, and boy, howdy, that BS is bound to spread itself to all the mainstream sites via conspiracy theorists.
while I take your point, the worst thing to come out of AI is a toss up between pollution and mass unemployment.
You could take it a step further. Downscale then A.I. upscale; now you DO have actual A.I. generated art on those cans, that looks very similar to the original, but possibly with artefacts as false evidence.
Any proof at all this is AI art or are we just calling any stylized art “AI” now baselessly?
I squinted at these cans for a minute and a bit, saw nothing that looked like AI artifacts.
Post your actual proof, otherwise, stop spreading disinformation.
Second one from the left is obvious slop. I’ve stopped there, but I haven’t seen anything in particular with the rest of them. They still trigger my vibe check detection of AI, but I couldn’t really tell you why. But after seeing just the second one be clearly AI, I don’t trust the rest.
obvious slop
So your source is “I made it the fuck up”?
Stop spreading disinformation.
Good news regarding your ‘vibe check detection’. Like so many other people, it’s no better than random guessing. Refer to the other comment with evidence these are images from real people.
Some has a color scheme similar to the AI piss filter, expect seem like they’re intentional color scheme rather than being a byproduct of AI inbreeding.
Where do you think the AI piss filter came from…?
Its trained on a bunch of existing artists work…
Nothing on these cans indicates AI to me.
In this day and age, we need to appear drummer than AI.
Hey! He used a semicolon! AI generated!
Dammit are semicolons out too now? I replaced my usage of em dashes with semicolons because I kept getting falsely flagged as A.I.; now what do I use?!
Unironically em dashes are pretty useful—now that I know how to use them.
What makes them useful compared to other punctuation like hyphens?
Right? I configured my mobile keyboard to access them AFTER all the LLM stuff — prior to that I had never really paid attention to the fact it was different from hyphens.
Explain why you think this is ai.
Looked up the beer and from untappd almost all the beer averages a 4.2 which is VERY good and generally is a good indication that it’s gonna be worth a try. If I find beer in the store that shows that rating I am most likely going to buy it. That price is ridiculous though, I would probably try one just to see but i cant afford those prices regularly. Im more of a 1 $20 4 pack every 4 months or so kind of guy these days.
The beer is probably the best on the island along with Messorem. Well worth a try.
I already don’t drink but if I did I’d take that horrible pisswater Corona Lime over this garbage any day of the week.
This is false.
The brewery has apparently used this art style for years. It’s made by human artists.
The original Reddit thread this is a copy of has been deleted. I would assume for this reason.
Do you have any source on that? Like some names of the artists or products from years past?
A few past artists I can find:
Hambeg Kukuh https://www.behance.net/hambegkukuh8
OREE Illustration https://www.instagram.com/p/DQpAyIBlTyZ/
Thanks for doing the research, I was super curious about that!
Well Behance site doesn’t date posts so can’t verify that one but the user appears to make very few posts with a large number of images so thats a mark against them, Instagram is unusable without an account, and the facebook page is surprisingly readable except the poster appeared to make music in 2020, went dark until 2024, and now suddenly makes can art?
I’m not really convinced by any of these, tbh.
You are hilarious.
Either you’re desperate to be a contrarian or you honestly believe a local brewery is going to risk their entire reputation, in a reputation industry, to pretend they aren’t using ai?
Get a grip.
It’s the artist’s page and he’s grouped the art by project. You not being able to access one of the most commonly used social networks for artists to share work doesn’t invalidate it. I could access it just fine. Someone being involved in multiple art forms isn’t at all unusual.
Like, what, you’re alleging that this is now a grand conspiracy to plant fake artists all over the internet on different platforms over multiple years to obfuscate AI use by some tiny brewery in Montreal?
You’ve gotta be causing local tinfoil shortages.
Me not being able to verify something does indeed make it unverifiable to me. I wouldn’t be sticking up for META in the first place, fuck that company.
3 social media accounts with some tiny amount of history can be purchased for like $40, I wouldn’t call it a huge conspiracy in the least.
Oh man, you ARE alleging it. Hilarious.
You’ve been shown evidence that humans have designed art for them. If you have evidence that humans are no longer designing art for them, have at it. Otherwise, good day.
evidence that humans have designed art for them
Wish I had then we could put this to rest.
Absolutely not. Brewskey uses AI on all its cans.
Wrong. Brewskey would never.
I hope you’re being sarcastic.
I’ve seen no evidence that they have, only people insisting it’s AI without evidence. If you have evidence, share it. Otherwise, they’re a small brewery and don’t deserve to be targeted with a misinformation campaign.
Brewskey no longer hires graphic designers. I’m not going to ask people I know who work there to lose their jobs just to prove it to some dude on the Internet who doesn’t know AI when he sees it. Go ahead and believe what you need to, but you’re believing a lie.
‘trust me bro’
This has “my uncle works for Nintendo” energy
Literally post any source, or any proof this is AI art.
Im squinting at it and not seeing anything atm that indicates its AI.
So it sounds like you are making shit up.
That’s not evidence.
I know it for a fact. Giving you evidence would absolutely cost someone their job. Is that what you want? All I can give you is my guarantee. But when it comes out that they’ve been using AI, I’ll be expecting your apology.
Do you hear yourself right now? That is the oldest, most snake-oil bullshit anybody could ever come up with. And here you are doubling down on it and acting like your so-called insider information makes you somehow wise and all-knowing.
Seriously, I want you to stand in front of the mirror and say what you said to yourself.
Go. Try it. Bet that won’t cost anybody their job.
I won’t really owe you an apology. I’m more than happy to accept it now with evidence. I’ll be equally happy if evidence becomes available in the future.
From there, the AI can fully take over and use the sales numbers and additionally bought user data to iteratively improve the pictures until people buy a can for $20 and don’t know why.
Sad to see them use AI on all their cans, their beer is excellent.
$11 pints they better be superb mate.
As a beer enjoyer, i’m definitely interested but it doesn’t look like I can get their stuff in my area.
This must be in a store relatively far from the bar, they’re not that expensive around here.
Their Brewtal Juice Smoothie Sour looks delicious and I’d pay $11 for it at least once. I’ve had some good beer but never anything that looked like that.
They have a Brew Juice with berries this week that’s pretty decent. They change beers pretty much every week.
Thank you, dear @[email protected] for the care… and your attitude for art…
No dear words may express the sorrow… the disgust about these awful LLM/“AI” nonsense of effortless, bloody dark void sorrow… of dead white noise shaped from meat-ground artworks, effort, and love… of now defaced/unknown artists… in the datasets of these LLMs now sold by vendors…

Honestly - wth are those prices. Crime against humanity
Judging from the french language on the cans, I suspect this is the price in Canadian Pesos, not USD. But still expensive yes.
Seems Dutch. The price includes all taxes including VAT as is mandatory in Europe but still it’s very expensive. Price seems about 3 times too high for a novelty beer from a small brewery. My guess is that this fridge photo is taken not in a shop but in a drinking establishment, such as a bar or food court.
The price tags say “Prijs/L” so Dutch, I think maybe. Euros.
Good on PlayWay for taking a stance on AI. (Now if only they’d take a stance against churning out as much asset-flipped “simulator” junk in the shortest amount of time possible.)
Um.sure
