I don’t care what y’all think. Nothing about my food being hot or even warm makes it any better for me. I always burn tongue and even if I don’t, I really don’t enjoy rushing to swallow because my mouth is at risk of inflicting pain. Even when it’s slightly warm, I don’t like it. I want my food stone cold, no matter what the food is.

I always let my food cool down, not even to room temperature, I let it cool even longer and I eat everything stone cold. It lets me properly savor the flavor, without worrying about too much heat. Eating cold food for me is a relaxing experience, eating hot food is a panic-inducing one, and eating slightly warm food is boring, not any better than stone cold food. I’ll even gladly eat food straight out of the fridge and enjoy it! I’ve been called “crazy” and “perverse” for this many, many times.

I like my food stone cold and refuse to eat it even mildly warm, always letting it cool down way below room temperature. Screw what anyone thinks 😆

“Stone cold” usually describes a facial expression, not a temperature.

always letting it cool down way below room temperature

You can’t let something cool below room temperature as it would just reach equilibrium at room temperature. You have to actively cool it (like put it in a fridge) to cool it below room temperature.

That’s incorrect. Evaporative cooling may reduce the temperature beyond room temp, depending on how much moisture is available on the food.

According to Merriam-Webster’s dictionary, its first entry is literal, with figurative use second.

        stone-cold

        “1 : completely cold”

So yes, it is absolutely used to describe temperature.

I love cold Pizza and cold fried chicken. That’s where I draw the line unless it’s food that is meant to be served cold/room temp.

I consider both of those to be completely different foods from their hot versions. It’s always hard for me to decide if I want the leftovers heated up or not.

How does this even work if you eat somewhere that doesn’t have a fridge for you to cool your food below room temperature? What’s wrong with you that you “always” burn your tongue even at nonburning temps?

Sensory differences are a thing. Although I doubt OP literally “burns” their tongue on luke-warm foods, it’s possible OP has a sensory difference that makes warm food more difficult to tolerate, or possibly even painful.

For me, my brain interprets certain light touches as “painful.” I can tolerate having my hairs pulled out one-by-one and feel fine, but touch me in the wrong spot with a feather and I’ll scream. I can easily imagine other people may have crossed wires in their nervous system somewhere that make certain temperature sensations on a sensitive tongue feel painful.

How do you “let something cool down” further than room temperature? You can’t really let something just sit still and cool more than the ambient temperature, so you must use some form of cooling element, like ice cubes or something.

Or this is bait, I honestly can’t tell.

Ah yes. But how come it gets warm in the first place? You put it in the fridge after cooking I guess? You don’t eat the raw ingredients, right? That would be even more astonishing 😅

          Yes…sometimes
I’ll be honest…yes, sometimes I do eat “raw” ingredients. Not ones that are actually dangerous to eat, but just yesterday, I found a pack of pre-cooked, vacuum-sealed ramen noodles in dad’s fridge. I should’ve boiled them to heat them up…but they were pre-cooked, okay? So, umm…I just unpacked them, took out the solid slab of cold noodles and started biting into that…
Not bad at all, I must say! Good snacc, would eat again :3

By now, you should have realized, I am NOT normal

Hey, what is normal these days. Enjoy your food, and surround yourself with people who don’t judge.

I think it’s freaking weird, but I wouldn’t unfriend you over this thing. This thing wouldn’t hurt our theoretical friendship. Eat how you wanna eat. Bon appetit!

Erm, so do you have issues with extremes? Because burning your tongue should not happen often and that remains true even if you were eating food hot every time. What you describe as inevitable is something that happens to me like three times a year, only is bothersome for a couple days, and is thoroughly my own fault when it does happen.

Definitely unpopular. In a strange way I kind of agree about not wanting to burn your mouth, that’s horrible and not worth it. I’ll sometimes sit and wait for several minutes for my plate to cool if it’s steaming hot, even when I’m hungry and other people around me are eating. But there’s always a point where it’s obviously safe and still nicely warm which is much better than being cold.
