That’s a shitty way to get any change

If you voted for Trump and you realize it was a mistake, that’s OK. People make mistakes and what is important is that you realize it was a mistake and don’t do it again in the future

Of course there are people who make mistakes, but Trump’s poor-people base is, at its core, temporarily embarrassed millionaires. They voted for him to take away from others hoping that the savings would be spent directly on their social causes.

I love watching people get what they deserve. But I worry we’ve created a world where its not possible to change your stance on something or admit you were wrong. Like something from the Art of War that says you shouldn’t surround your enemy completely or they will fight harder since escape isn’t an option. Even if you don’t intend for them to escape, merely thinking they can wont cause them to fight as hard.

I mean yeah but the dude rapes children so he needs to be in prison. The ideal answer would have been for his parents to have raised him better but that ship sailed a long time ago.

Art of War is a little inapplicable here because in that book, there’s an assumption the enemy isn’t out to destroy the whole world, but trump really has no qualms about destroying everything if that’s what it takes for him to keep his freedom despite his horrific crimes.

Are you kidding? It is comically easy to just change sides, announce you have always believed everything about the side your own, and begin heckling the people on the original side by calling them idiots and assholes. Just roll up another account. Or be Tucker Carlson.

Nobody will care, so long as your caustic remarks and smug self-aggrandizement and self-pitying doomerism jerks your audience off the right way.

Like something from the Art of War that says you shouldn’t surround your enemy completely or they will fight harder since escape isn’t an option.

The problem isn’t that Liberals have somehow backed Conservatives into a corner. The problem is that Conservatives effectively make up a Liberal to be afraid of and regularly sell their voter base on being terrified of the Dark Brandon Ultra-Left Anarcho-Chinese Muslim Tankie hiding behind the milquetoast corporate centrist who agrees with them on 90% of public policy.

When you’ve built a fantasy world for your voters to live in, the best way to keep them there is to tell a bunch of horror stories about what’s outside the echo chamber.

And are you kidding? Are you seeing maga declare themselves liberal in droves? There’s supposed to be a “blue wave” coming for midterms so I guess we’ll wait and see. But if there is a blue wave id think it’s because maga are upset and not going out to support trump, not that they’ve all become liberals.

I agree. If anything, they’ve done the opposite. The MAGA crowd has received every out, second chance, and pardon legally possible.

Are you seeing maga declare themselves liberal in droves?

Plenty of #NeverTrump Republicans have been piling in to the Liberal Party for over a decade. Then they show up and complain that the party has too many liberals in it.

But if there is a blue wave id think it’s because maga are upset and not going out to support trump, not that they’ve all become liberals.

Years when Trump isn’t on the ballot tend to see depressed GOP turnout.

I’ll say: it really seems like that call is coming from inside the house. Lots of former conservatives can get by in leftist spaces by just not being a conservative when asked about their opinions. If you can laugh at who you used to be you can absolutely be a reformed conservative. Maybe you have to be a few years removed from who you used to be but I’ve seen it, I know people who have gone through exactly that and they’re as left as anyone now. Mostly because being a leftist means engaging with and being in the normal world.

But if you’re in a conservative environment even the smallest dissent can be seen as fully treasonous. It spirals into hysteria and we see how conservatives have to live in an alternate reality to stay in the in-group.

But I think there’s people out there who only vote R cuz their parents do and they’re in a small conservative town in the country.

If people flip from R to D its like a x2 effect. Not only are R’s getting less votes but D’s are getting more. Idk. Maybe everyone is already set in their ways or will switch on their own eventually.

also they are only admitting they were wrong, after they get fucked by the hate policies they thought were only going to be used against brown people.

and they expect to be treated like the actual victims of those policies, and receive care, and concern, and comfort, and support, about the egregious wrongs they suffered, just like they’ve seen the actual victims of these policies get time and time again.

and they don’t get it, because they are the stupid cunts that supported all that shit, voted for all that shit, and still’d be fighting for all that shit if it hadnt suddenly affected them.

Colbert doesnt speak to Mexicans confirmed. Seems like he sticks to English speaking people. I am surrounded by non english speakers as a half filipino. I know so many mexicans that love trump. I dont believe Colbert sympathizes with them either but I fear thats out of ignorance. I dont like it when people speak like Colbert did here because it lacks necessary nuance but im unaware of the context here, but if this is colberts most nuanced and real take then I pity him the same I pity the working class Filipino and Mexican and Black and all other kinds of Americans that voted for Trump. Its the same ignorance, but supposedly Colbert should know a bit more about empathy with propaganda on the poor persons mind.

Its white supremacy - There are plenty that don’t regret theur choices because they are either still unaffected because they are closer to the white supremacist ideal (affluent, non marginilized white men) or think they will soon become those men (temporarily embarrassed non marginilized white men that aren’t afluent) or they think they are the exception to the rule (tokenized minorities and white women, gay white me, etc who are only tokenized as long as they are useful).

            Agreed

As to your second point, double jack shit is two jack shits. I’m not saying that no black people voted for trump. I’m disputing the point you made refuting that white supremacy was the reason we have trump.

It was 100% white supremacy, and saying ‘well, Black people did it too’ is a magat talking point.

The fact that latinos helped greatly, does not make it any less motivated by white supremacy, except from an American white racist’s standpoint. Plenty of people not considered white by American white supremacists still consider themselves white, especially in central and South America.

Because Democrats don’t give a shit about working class people, and use marginalized people as tokens. “You’ll vote for us because Republicans actively hate you.” Seriously the amount of contempt Democrats seem to have for their own base is alarming.

So Latino voters vote on other things, like abortion. Being mostly Catholic this tends to split that group up. Moreso because the DNC refuses to support down ballot Democrats that don’t go hard for abortion.

It’s cuz those people got theirs and now they want to close the gate, same as the current cons, theyre to dumb to realized that once they do get that wish, they’ll be the next group of people the cons will focus on getting rid off since current day concurvatism exclusicly focus on exclusion. I don’t like a shitload of foreigners migrating out into a country like what happened here in canada during Justin’s reign just so they can cover cheap labor and exclude younger workers but it’s stupid for them to think they won’t be persecuting by people like this and can’t understand that these people aren’t concervatives, theyre fascists.

I don’t think you’re giving Obama enough credit here

While he failed to get a comprehensive immigration reform law passed, he took important steps toward protecting DREAMERs and focusing enforcement priorities.

DACA provides protection from deportation and work authorization to certain undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children. In the last few years, DACA has proven successful for the 740,000 individuals who benefitted from the initiative.

One of the first steps the Obama administration took toward changing enforcement priorities came with the elimination of large worksite raids, which had been widely used during the Bush administration. In contrast to large raids, Obama emphasized investigating and penalizing employers. Early changes were also made to the priorities of the Fugitive Operations Program, which had been apprehending “the easiest targets, not the most dangerous fugitives.”

Compared to the current administration being overtly racist (Calling all Mexican immigrants drug mules, saying that Haitians are eating cats and dogs), while upping ICE budgets so they can chase after people without any criminal history

I’d say the choice is obvious.
