I had to listen to this episode riding along with some coworkers for a work road trip this week. It’s fucking stupid. I don’t know how anyone willingly listens to this show. He’s full of shit, his guests are full of shit, his sponsors are full of shit. There’s a pattern here.

I get what he’s saying - like a lot of things he talks about, it only makes sense on a surface level.

A computer is programmed by people, and has assumptions and conditions programmed into it. The people who create the LLM/AI/AGI/Whatever are going to decide what’s important and what isn’t.

That’s literally creating laws and treaties in an overly complicated way, that you probably couldn’t predict the outcome of. It’s never going to be better than having intelligent, educated, and well supported representatives.

Additionally, government doesn’t mean anything unless there’s an enforcement arm. It’s a terrible idea to concentrate the decision making to one thing, then give it the power to enforce its decisions. That’s literally Judgement Day.

Nowhere is it written that an actual AGI system would be aligned with the hopes and desires of its creator. That’s a baseless assumption that we shouln’t take as gospel.

I don’t see him claiming AI would do that. He very clearly says that he hopes this would be the case.

That pretty much aligns with what I said about this a few days back in a different thread:

Humans are inherently flawed. Even the best ones are biased, emotional, irrational and easily manipulated. My (perhaps) unpopular opinion is that politics will never run like a well-oiled machine that treats everyone fairly for as long as they’re run by people.

A truly benign, aligned and independent AGI system is the only thing I can even imagine that could at least in theory offer the kind of governing system we actually need. And I truly mean an independent agent with our well-being as the guiding principle. Not one with an inbuilt bias toward who made it.

Now, whether that’ll ever be actually possible is a different story but the “best case scenario” for a human-run government and an AI-run government are light-years apart.

I just watched GPT6 fail to be able to count the number of occurrences of the letter “e” in the word seventeen.

    Yeah, that tracks.

Wasn’t he a huge fan of Rousey? A woman who lucked her way in to a top spot and couldn’t hold it for 2 full rounds?
