Good. Lemmy needs more content. I hate that I miss out on so much by being here, but I can’t go back to reddit. Therefore I welcome the bots with open arms.
I’m ok with that if it’s on a separate instance that’s easy to block/hide (which has been happening already). Where I take issue is bots taking over communities where humans post.
I think half the problem with lemmy is there’s too many people who reddit rejected and not enough that rejected reddit.
I rejected reddit when they did RIF and Apollo dirty. I would still like the reddit content.

But reddit rejects people for utter nonsense reasons. If you just use it enough you’ll eventually stumble into something that irks the wrong admin or gets caught by their word filter. So they “Reddit rejected” is really just a random sampling of power users. Of that set, the hateful degenerates are driven towards X imo.

I use a lot less internet than I used to because of it.
I like to frequent HackerNews for some of the discussions there, but… my god, the front page just turns me off. I do a quick glance, see if anything isn’t some not-so-subtly covert advert for an LLM product, and just navigate away.

I’ve run this experiment before. ~90% of accounts sampled on the top 20 /r/all with not prior post history before 2-3 months got converted to cryptocurrency spam bots. Some of the remainder were porn spam. A few deleted accounts. A few seemingly real people. This was during the heights of cryptocurrency mania. Believe me or don’t. I can’t be assed with source dropping internet-pseud wankery.
Bot deception tactics have certainly changed since the prevalence of LLMs. I haven’t been paying attention to what the patterns have shifted to. Before these times, it was easily spotted because they were relatively simple.
I believe earlier this year someone on /r/theoryofreddit spotted closed networks of subreddits where bots engage with each other. Those are used to farm accounts on a massive scale.

As long as the bot is allowed to be there it’s not a problem it’s not ideal obviously. It should be considered if it is actually a good idea will the community ever develop if it is just already 100% reddit reposts?
I think it’s kind of a chicken-and-egg problem. Hopefully the community existing and having regular posts increases the odds of user interaction like comments and votes, which would naturally lead to more and more posts from actual members. Hopefully whoever is running that bot can wind it down while actual engagement ramps up.
I mean I’m kind of ok with that, I just don’t want to use reddit. Or am allowed to. Then again reddit is a corporate cesspit so that will start spilling over…

Please, allow me to show you how to fix this: Go into Developer Options, and then do a search for “minimum width” (sometimes it’s called “smallest width”, depending on the device), and increase that number until you can actually fit a decent amount of content on the screen. A setting around 450-550dp works best on most screens.
Edit: When configured properly, your UI will look like this. Please note all the extra room for activities! I’ve got nearly double the amount of screen real estate, compared to what you’re looking at!
Hell yeah! Whats the point in having ~2k resolution if everything in the UI gets blown up bigger than it was in the days of 640x480? Do your letters look that much smoother? Do you like only being able to fit a single sentence on screen at a time? If I’m paying for that screen real estate, I want to use it all!

Personally I don’t mind it too much, as long as
- there’s no vote manipulation to artificially boost the post
- there are genuine interactions in the comments
- the account posting this is properly labelled as a bot account (if it’s an actual bot)
Looking at this specific accounts history it seems as if its a regular poster (with a bit controverse ethics about content creation if you will) and as if OP has just labeled the account to be a bot.
I’m not infuriated by more content that we desperately need.
