It’s not necessarily about asking questions or providing the right detail to someone who knows more than you though. After asking for help with the problems I’m experiencing, the answer turned out to be that the NVIDIA driver support for my hardware configuration just isnt there yet. It’s not Linux’s fault, but unless I spend hundreds to switch my GPU brand or start unlugging monitors, I’m stuck with Windows until Explicit Sync hits the stable release.

Oh yeah for sure, it works great when I set my monitors to the same refresh rate, but I’d prefer to not have to do that because it’s a pretty big difference between them. My secondary monitor is 165hz, but my primary monitor is 360hz, and trying to run them at their native refresh rates at the same time in X11 doesn’t work at all. I’d have to set the 360hz monitor down to 165hz to match my secondary monitor before things become usable.

The self healing part is for scratches on the inner screen. Since the inner screen can’t be made of glass, it’s prone to scratches.

I’m guessing they mean using it as an anti-theft device. If a thief steals an item with a tracker in it, they’ll be notified of the tracker’s presence by their phone and remove it. Of course, these trackers aren’t anti-theft devices and you probably shouldn’t use them to try confronting a thief on your own anyway…

I can’t use my two monitors on X11 because they’re different refresh rates unfortunately. I’d have to either lower the refresh rate of my main monitor to match my secondary monitor (ew) or disable my secondary monitor completely. I get the flickering in Wayland also sadly.

I’ve not been having a pleasant experience with it, but X11 has its own share of issues as well. They have different issues though, my problems in Wayland are not identical to the problems i have with X11. PopOS under Wayland has been the most usable so far, but I’m hoping that when this update hits the stable branch it’ll finally make Bazzite practical as my main OS.

How can I update to this beta driver in Bazzite?

Is this the update that will let me use two monitors with different refresh rates at the same time under wayland?

ARM is the licensor, not the licensee. At the very least, they are willing to license the ARM architecture to more companies (the licensees) than Intel is with x86. More RISC-V support would be ideal though for sure…

I still can’t connect my 360hz monitor and 165hz monitor and get HDR at the same time in Linux. Only two of these things work at once. Hoping the eventual new Nvidia drivers fix that, but otherwise I’m out of ideas.

It’s not distributed by Microsoft either, it’s distributed by Win.rar GmbH from their own website. The developers made it only for Windows, but that doesn’t mean Microsoft played any part in it. Windows is the most widely used desktop OS, especially in business environments, and selling to businesses is where WinRAR makes their money.

Wait, what? Microsoft didn’t make WinRAR.

Why doesn’t this already work the way I would expect? You can plug your smartphone into your PC and access its entire filesystem, and they’re basically both computers. Why can’t this work the same way between PCs? Or why can’t I access my PC’s files from my phone?

I switched to Cloudflare. Squarespace wasn’t going to work for me.

I’m sure I’ll return to Pop eventually, maybe on the next release, but right now I’m struggling to get everything I want out of it with my hardware.

Popping in to give an update before calling it a night!

First of all, thank you for all the help! I’ve been reading through all the comments here and trying a few things out. The first thing I tried was switching the default desktop environment from the default Gnome to KDE. I much prefer KDE to Gnome since I have experience with it on the Steam Deck, so this is the solution that I had the most hope for. Sadly though, things are much worse in KDE. Unlike in Gnome, KDE has the terrible screen tearing that was mentioned in X11, but is still similarly unable to support running the monitors at different refresh rates. Since a lot of the comments here mentioned Wayland though, that was my real end goal in getting KDE installed. Unfortunately, witching over to KDE Wayland, things became significantly more unusable and it was about the same experience I had while trying to install Nobara. Both displays were totally unresponsive for seconds at a time and I was only able to interact with things during brief moments when they would stutter along instead. This was pretty painful to log back out of and was an overall mess like a couple of you had mentioned it might be.

I went back to Gnome after this. Since KDE didn’t seem to be they way forward, I figured I might as well try enabling Wayland on Pop_OS’s built in solution. Wayland support was hidden by default on NVIDIA as mentioned, but one quick config edit later and the option appeared. Things seem to be going much better now! I’m running Gnome Wayland right now and while things aren’t flawless yet they’re significantly better than before. Both monitors are working at their full refresh rates now without any screen tearing or flickering. As for gaming, so far I only have Helldivers 2 installed running through Proton, and performance is about 8% worse than in Windows on the same graphics settings while on the ship. I am also getting an odd visual bug where the in-game menu looks like it opens and closes very quickly every once in a while. It’s not actually open or intractable though, it’s more like the game randomly displays a single frame from when I did have the menu open to change the graphics settings. Tomorrow I’ll try enabling Proton experimental and see if that fixes anything, and also try installing some more games.

I’ll come back again to give an update on how things are going then! I’m still lacking HDR and there are other bugs that look like they need to be ironed out, but I’m much more optimistic about this than I was before. I think I’ll keep dual-booting for now, at least while I’m still trying to get everything working properly, and hopefully that next version of Pop_OS brings HDR support. For now, it’s at least nice to know that different monitor refresh rates are working.

It sure would be cool to see the space shuttle reach the moon though
