And the nerve to make all the other participants touch your shit just to win a race is something else. I know athletes need a competitive mindset but thats just disrespectful.

From what I read elsewhere, it sounded like a situation the officials were simply unprepared to deal with, and there was nothing in the rules about it. Just not something that has happened before or had been thought of as a possibility. I have the impression this is a newer sport, not something that has been around for decades or even centuries, like running.

I guess it happens to marathon runners all the time, but they’re generally on public streets outdoors (with the airflow advantages that implies) and the worst case is stepping in it and getting it on their shoes. This is a much more up-close sport (and indoors), like to the point where other competitors might have needed to do pushups in the same spot she did them. They tore out the carpet after her race.
It doesn’t help that she posted “Go hard or go home. A win is a win” while getting an IV immediately afterwards.

Yeah I think she didnt exactly have a clear mind after winning a professional competition while sick and leaking diarrhea everywhere. But yeah it does make her sound very arrogant and disrespectful.

I feel sorry for these people when I read stories like these. They’re pushing themselves so hard physically and emotionally, their head’s in a weird place, their judgement is off and they end up humiliating themselves on the world stage. Virtually the entire world. The worst kind of fame. This person’s life is over. They will forever be the point of ridicule by everyone.
Can you imagine waking up every day, your career is totally over, having to face that. Knowing that the whole world has seen what you did in the heat of the moment. You have let down every one who supported you, your family, and failed your life’s goal in the most embarrassing way possible. To hide yourself away in miserable shame is the best you could possibly hope for.
And it just doesn’t go away, now you have to get on camera to apologize and explain it away. You have to make statements. You have to watch clips of it over and over. Everywhere you go people are talking about you in hushed mocking wispers. Everything you do will have an asterisk near it. One fucked up moment overshadows everything else from here on out. For the rest of your life.
That’s a hard burden to carry.
Sucks that the athlete is getting all the blame when the event organizers are the ones who had the most responsibility to prevent this. They should’ve disqualified her as soon as they saw the feces running down her leg. It retrospect it’s easy for her to see that this was gross and inappropriate, but during the heat of the competition the burden should’ve been on someone from Hyrox to pull her aside and tell her she is disqualified because she’s causing a safety hazard for the other competitors.
Apparently, in her mind this was a Michael Jordan with the flu situation. She has pictures afterwards in a hospital bed getting an IV and bragging about how you have to do what you have to do.
Now all that said, I’m a little sympathetic, as apparently shitting yourself during marathons and the like is not uncommon, but this was some weird crossfit thing where you are indoors and constantly getting down on the floor for various reasons and using provided equipment, so anyone who came after her was wading through her poopies. I think you have to be capable of being very self-centered, at least temporarily, to be a truly elite competitive athlete, but somebody should have thought this one through better.
Well, it’s no one’s obligation to validate someone, or be friends with them. When you put your entire self-worth in the hands of random people, this is exactly what happens. They treat you like a broken, tainted object.
The key is to pick a path where you are not well known, and don’t give a shit about other people and what they have to offer.
