Just got this in the parent app, Ive truly become unhinged in that I responded immediately to the post: Ai really? Slop.
I cant take it anymore. A lady at the checkout of my dr appointment yesterday had a large poster, ehem, large ai poster of herself as a queen with text on it like “phone queen” and it was so hard to stand there and not say anything.
Imma get introuble at my son’s school this year, I can tell. Fuck Camino Alto, Fuck ai.
My kids high school uses AI for everything this year. After talking with him he decided to try to suggest that students do the designs for posters moving forward. We haven’t heard anything back yet but I guess we’ll see.
But honestly, with high schools especially — how are they not taking advantage of that fun learning opportunity with the kids?
My biology high school teather starts to use ai-gened html instead of video. And it is funny. Like some sort of games designed for pupils. It presents nothing more than the sentense on the textbook. When you use AI to demonstrate or simulate something for the class, make sure you have much more knowledge prepared and plan thoroughly. Bear in mind the iceberg principle.
My school recently posted a fundraiser, except this time they completely AI generated the poster and advertising for it. Funnily enough literally only 1 person has donated so far and they’ve made 1% of what they did last year
Before gen“AI” this flyer would have been comic sans and clip-art images… the economic, social, and mental costs of gen“AI” obviously make this worse, but I’m not sure that would have looked any better…
This is true. Whoever spent 10 minutes doing this in Canva would have also spent 10 monitors doing this at any stage of history. Of this was from the 80s, it would have been black marker and then 100 copies would have been made.
Of all the gripes you can have with AI, elementary school teachers using it to save time printing out pointless time schedules is a pretty stupid one.
I work at a school, and its still depressing seeing the exec team using ai posters hyping up a school event, but asking the acemedic staff to come up with activities to do in the event.
Like they made the poster adveticing KFC and pool time. But the person who made the poster stayed back. Everyone else had to set up the tables, buy the food, supervise the kids for the event. While the guys upstairs didn’t even use comic sans and clip art. They went to Copilot and said “do this for me”, and went back to their coffee and friends.
Can we hide these behind a blur or a warning? I get educational cause but more control is good
I don’t want to see it tbh
What are the AI tells here? I can’t tell at all.
The entire style is the same genetic crap that ChatGPT and others pour out. The significant detail and cutesiness is always indicative for low-stakes events, because it’s rare for a human to put in that much effort for something this simple.
Generally the images looking like they have been nail polished and subjected to a strong light And those errors:

That’s a butterfly, but the whole thing is AI generated regardless. is it the overall lack of sharpness? idk
Why is there a butterfly there? Why is it the exact same color as the numbers? Why is the butterfly a single color blurry mess when the depictions of the food have a sickening amount of detail bordering on perfectly symmetrical?
No one is zooming into a school poster and getting upset over this. It’s nitpicking to nitpick.
My attention was drawn to it because it looks like it’s supposed to signal a footnote at first glance, but there’s no foot note. It’s odd size makes this stand out.
The gipity gonna make it so the levy don’t pass then they go back to the gipity to make a flyer that looks like ass. I hacked the system I didn’t breed. Knew this day was cumming. derp welcum to the footurd. Donkey steaks and diarrhea lettuce
My school sells shirts for funding the PTA and various programs at the school every year. This year the company making the shirts used AI to generate the images and logos.
It was extremely hard to want to support the school’s funding, but also not want to support this bullshit.
Interesting that the thread is filled with people saying using AI to make a flyer is fine because the person making the flyer doesn’t have the time, skill, or budget to do anything more than some text and clip art.
Doesn’t that argument literally apply to everything AI is used for? Isn’t AI literally being marketed as the tool to use to do the thing you don’t have the time, skill, or budget to do?
Someone doesn’t have the time, skill, or budget to make a nice looking website? Just use AI. Someone doesn’t have the time, skill, or budget to make a nice looking menu for their restaurant? Just use AI.
Why does that argument work here but not for everything AI is used for?
Back in the day this is something clipart would have been used here. Clipart is almost as soulless.
When clipart completes with jobs, or even worse, passionate people that publish their art for free, the consequences are way more dire
It’s always someone saying, “AI is fine to use if you use it for [skill that is outside my wheelhouse], but you shouldn’t use it for [skills I depend on to make a wage].”
Like, even as a software dev I acknowledge there are places where it should be readily used in directly making software, and places where it should never touch the actual code.
yeah Ive dipped from this convo when I saw a post shortly after mine with an Ai menu with no confrontation in the thread under it.
I would have to agree that AI has valid use cases, this seems like one. My issue with AI is people’s insistence on trying to shoehorn it into everything and then using it (just because it’s there) to churn out shite, like the phone queen example the op gave us.
People have been advertising their small business or event with crappy clipart and a complete lack of design sense for as long as we’ve had access to personal computers. Didn’t stop people making these things a success.
The current wave of stuff they’re making with LLM tools just all have this uncanny valley feel where all you can see are the slop markers and, for me at least, it’s incredibly distracting from what the thing is even trying to tell me.
Do I think there’s a meaningful loss of business for people using LLMs? Probably not, but I’m not alone in just now ignoring any product, service or event if it uses LLM image generation to advertise it.
Of course, this is just a lot faster, so it’s equally shitty, but more time effective for them.
The sooner they have to pay for shit like this, the sooner it should reduce… I think the amount of “free” usage is too damn high.
They’re like drug dealers handing out free samples, they’re getting people hooked so when they jack the prices up they’ll be desperate for it.

This use of AI is really such a tiny tiny issue. Is this really the hill you want to die on? Why not save your energy and attention for the big issues like the Capital class using AI to fuck over the Labor class? Save your energy for the real fight, against Thiel and Co.
Also, how would this have been done prior to AI? They would find some random illustrations on google, copy+paste, then print it out. Who is this actually negatively affecting?
That font style is so pervasive in every AI flyer I see made .
Yeah, it’s the new Comic Sans.
And they always, like nearly 100% of the time, have all the text rotated just slightly counter-clockwise. If you haven’t noticed this yet you’ll start to see it everywhere.
There’s a school event the day before Christmas Eve? Getting those future wage slaves used to barely having any time off early.
My kids have Winter Break from Dec 24th, until Jan 4th.
