What a fallacious take. They’re not protesting the ability to go to “boujie” shows. They’re protesting the silencing of artists and standing up for art in general. Historically, fascists attack the arts to hurt our ability to dissent and unite as a community. Seems like an important thing to do in the US right now.

Couldn’t shut down a weapons factory? An ICE prison? Literally anything that would effect profits or death. But we can defend an art museum with our bodies?

Please. I love the fact that people are learning how to organize but it is completely valid criticism that Americans have their priorities inverted.

Even your defense is inverted. You are claiming that the symbolic fascism is important to fight and completely ignore the actual fascism happening daily. Shut down the fucking court system. Shut down police stations. Shut down banks. Shut down factories. Shut down ports. No no, an art museum is just as important because fascists, while also imprisoning black people and killing immigrants ALSO go after the arts?

      Just a totally limp take.

That’s the fun thing, I don’t disagree with any of your suggestions. I actively want these things to be happening, and I participate as much as possible when my community engages in these types of actions.

You’re comparing apples to oranges, though. Protesting and circling hands around an art center doesn’t come with the same risks or active threats. You’re asking why people aren’t doing this around ICE detention centers when the answer is clear. People have been killed and jailed indefinitely for doing so in the recent past. Not everyone willing to make the same sacrifice, and I’m not in a position to blame them.

I want people engaged, to whatever their entry points are. Let me know when you are gaming to shut down a municions factory, though. I’ll be there.

Yeah, we agree that raising consciousness is good. And as much as it hurts people’s feelings, mockery and criticism are part of the process

What a shit take. You don’t build community by starting with mockery, criticism, and/or the other tropey bro initiation bullshit.

You either want to help or you don’t. The way you act is dictated by that. Life isn’t some memelord shower conversation.

I’m not trying to build community with the people who think symbolic arts institutions named after presidents who perpetuated US imperial dominance is worth their time. I am trying to build community with people who are propagating a more accurate analysis of power in an effort to ensure that those people have something that will help them orient when they inevitably burnout on their ineffective path.

And if life isn’t about memes, someone should tell the propagandists of the last 75 years that despite all their success they’re doing it wrong according to you.

It’s about what you’re willing to set your foot down for. Such many Americans choosing this as their red line says so much.

Yeah, you addressed nothing about my point about the value about the arts.

Also, how is this a red line regarding the Kennedy Center? Americans have been rightfully protesting about all kinds of things, including the genocide in Gaza. Were those red lines, too?

It’s normal to care about and participate in multiple things at the same time.
