You’re comparing apples to oranges, though. Protesting and circling hands around an art center doesn’t come with the same risks or active threats. You’re asking why people aren’t doing this around ICE detention centers when the answer is clear. People have been killed and jailed indefinitely for doing so in the recent past. Not everyone willing to make the same sacrifice, and I’m not in a position to blame them.
I want people engaged, to whatever their entry points are. Let me know when you are gaming to shut down a municions factory, though. I’ll be there.
I’m not trying to build community with the people who think symbolic arts institutions named after presidents who perpetuated US imperial dominance is worth their time. I am trying to build community with people who are propagating a more accurate analysis of power in an effort to ensure that those people have something that will help them orient when they inevitably burnout on their ineffective path.
And if life isn’t about memes, someone should tell the propagandists of the last 75 years that despite all their success they’re doing it wrong according to you.
