You didn’t miss anything, everybody is giving them a pass because they have an old mainframe and until you’ve had to sync one you just don’t know. We all know the reason the government is still using mainframes from the 70s. You mean to tell me there’s no company that’s ever migrated away from a mainframe? It’s always a budget issue. And in the US anything that isn’t military spending is a budget issue.

I get unsolicited emails from random sales people every day at Zendesk, GoTo, Salesforce, HubSpot, Adobe, et al not even realizing I’m already a customer and have an account rep.

I was thinking the same thing, universities have historically been the main nodes on the internet because they had the largest data centers. Now that’s all being replaced by MGA and schools redistribute more and more of the budget into athletics. If universities are still hosting mirrors but they’re all virtual cloud servers in the same colo, I’m not sure how effective that is.

As if there’s any secret to Twitter that any person couldn’t figure out, we’re talking about 280 character messages. I hope they both just cancel each other out.

Maybe the way we deal with these tech companies is to build our own fediverse (duh) then keep giving them an ever growing list of federation requirements until they all bankrupt each other trying to take over our club.

I’ll admit I checked it out just to see. Then I realized I actually don’t know anybody who still uses Instagram and I didn’t know what to talk about anyway, so I deleted it and blocked them from my instance.

I don’t know if it this new service will be able to read posts from Lemmy or not, but I’ve already blocked this monstrosity just in case.
