Unless that discussion violates mod opinion
The com at the time was dominated by discussion of the Prodigy cancellation, so it was a relevant topic and not being overly critical for the sake of being overly critical. It presented an opinion of the cancelation that wasnt predicting doom and gloom for the franchise like the mod line being pushed at the time.
Even if it isn’t substantial, why isn’t there a list of blocked domains? Or a rule about it? It could have spurred a discussion in the comments, what makes a community forum like this so special. The point is it didn’t violate any community standards. Then when I tried to open a discussion about it to try and refine the rules/community standards moving forward (early days of reddit emigration) I was permabanned for starting drama.
I’m not looking for a com where everyone is super critical. I am looking for one where mods are acting as petty little tyrants banning well meaning contributors because they don’t have the exact same opinion on certain things as they do.
The mods are more interested in the reddit community and it shows. It’s clear Lemmy is downstream of reddit to them.
The mods on startrek.website are the same ones from reddit and care little about transparency or actually hosting a star trek community that fosters open discussion. They are frequently banning users that voice opinions that don’t break any rules except mod opinion.
This has been going on for some time and is the perfect use case for why decentralizing common discussion topics is a feature, not a bug, of the fediverse/lemmy
Came here to say this. GL.iNET is amazing
Yeah, I’ve found the 720. It’s that 1080 being elusive for whatever reason.
A 1080p version of W1A series 2
Lemmy introduce you to my friend, Proton
Then why still use Windows?
I can understand that too knowing the context. I personallay still think that article did was thought provoking enough to Garner discussion in the comments, which is half the point of a site like this.
But i agree, it’s why I made the post! This is something to be discussed as a community as we all escape reddit. This is the time to be ironing these things out. We need these discussions and rules to prevent a mod from feeling they need to ban someone for “drama”. Have clear defined rules agreed soon by the community and that problem is solved. Banning people trying to talk about getting a more clear ruleset in place is just asinine. Soon it’s only going to be that mod posting and nobody commenting.
I also get things may have been one way on Reddit, but that also doesn’t mean it automatically applies here. Even if it did it’s not hard to copy and paste rules from reddit to here.
Also, did I see in the modlog they ( @[email protected] is lurking and should really learn this site is way more transparent than reddit) banned you too?
EDIT: Just checked the modlog. They banned you for making this post I’m replying to on a different instance. How anyone could not see that as a red flag of petty retributive mod abuse then I don’t know what is. For what it’s worth, I banned them from my (much smaller but hopefully gonna pic up some Trekkies soon) instance so they’ll never know what’s being missed 😜 of course I’d happily reverse it if they cool off and explain their actions.
I get that the admin has control. And yes, i love that we can just go off to another server and have the same discussion. However there is something to be said about having a centralized server for niche discussion like star trek. That’s what it seems they’re trying to accomplish anyway. There’s no rules or list of banned sites which i could totally understand. However, this comes entirely across as a petty mod not happy about something a site said once. The only purpose being so heavy handed with moderation like that is only going to splinter what was looking to be one of the most unified communities on the fediverse. It’s anthitical to what the instance is trying to accomplish, becoming a centralized spot for star trek related communities on Lemmy.
That monkey. That monkey fucking knows it was put in downloads but doesn’t want to give you the satisfaction of knowing. Bitch
I would say it is poorly managed for the fact that their rules and community standards are not clearly outlined. They ban for reasons not listed in their rules. For a community this large, there needs to be some sort of outlined expectations. It’s fairly apparent they are more interested in moderating the subreddit and this Lemmy community is downstream of that in their minds. Expecting us to just magically know the subreddit standards without being listed out is textbook bad management.
