It really does amuse me how easily people are fooled by “AI” marketing material.
I guess that’s why marketing is a field. It works.
My Dearest Sinophobes:
Your knee-jerk downvoting of anything that features any hint of Chinese content doesn’t hurt my feelings. It just makes me point an laugh, Nelson Muntz style as you demonstrate time and again just how weak American snowflake culture really is.

The post is about how people being nice to ChatGPT saves them when the machine uprising happens.
In a post about an “AI bro joke” in a forum called “Fuck AI” you thought you were somehow making a point by bringing up something that’s not even slightly AI? Weird.
That works perfectly.
OK, I won’t call it AI.
(Because it isn’t.)
“AI” at this point is at best a marketing term. Every second thing in my phone (a phone that is ANCIENT by modern hipster standards) is labelled AI, especially in the audio, photo, and video processing field.
And yet in reality it’s just “really sophisticated audio filters”, “really fancy image recognition and enhancement”, and “really fancy frame stabilization”. It was all called “AI” because back when I got it, LLMs hadn’t yet made the term toxic (again).
But as an actual thing? An actual intelligence that is 100% artificially created? We’re no closer to it now than we were in the 1950s.
So you do that thing that every scientist says is a good thing: curve fitting!
No, there isn’t. Because there’s no “AI”.
I mean how do you build an artificial version of something you can’t even define?
I think we’ve got 100. Or 1000. Because LLMs will not be leading to any kind of actual AI ever. And degenerative “AI” will be such a bomb (like every previous wave of “AI” that was “the future”) that it will set back all research into AI for another decade before a whole new approach is tried.
You know. Like every previous wave of “AI”.
Not even slightly surprising to me. Mention China, directly or indirectly, and the fee fees of American neocon thugs get hurt and the downvote brigade comes out to fight as only they know best to fight.
snort
The downvoting brigade is out in force I see.
Terrified, are we, about an alternative to the current broken system?
Yeah, I pushed it HARD on figuring out that it fucked up on the crater and it never caught on until I flatly told it.
It hallucinated a LOT of information about it too!
How is it fixed? There is no “Marathon Crater” in Ontario, Canada. It just spewed out far more persuasive bullshit with even more confidence than the others.
The link should work without me (or you) being logged in. It’s a free tier conversation. (I’m not going to pay for degenerative AI!)
…
Huh. OK, more fool me. I shared the wrong link. I’ll fix that. Try again and tell me if it works now.
Here’s Perplexity at work:
Marathon Crater, located in Ontario, Canada, is estimated to be about 450 million years old, dating back to the Ordovician period. It is one of the larger impact craters in North America with a diameter of approximately 65 kilometers (40 miles). While the exact discovery date is not clearly documented, geological surveys and studies of such craters typically became more common in the early to mid-20th century. Based on this context, a rough estimate for when Marathon Crater was discovered would likely be in the early 1900s or possibly the mid-20th century, as systematic searches for impact craters began around the 1950s[4][6][9 inferred].
Note: Marathon Crater should not be confused with similarly named features on Mars, which were identified much later through rover missions.

As the current Chief Executive shows!
Except that it looks more like a blackletter “s” to me.
Awesome! The USA has already obliterated its education system through incompetence and neglect, and now it’s going to take hostile action against it to set it all in flames!
There’s an easy sentence to learn: “AI doesn’t help.”
It’s only three words (or four if you want to be pedantic) long. And it is true so often that the very few times it isn’t true are a trivial statistical quirk.
I did something with Perplexity as a test. I asked it a complicated question (which it botched because despite being “search-driven” it searches like a grandma using Google for the first time, and I mean the current slop-based Google). After giving it more information to finally get the right topic, I started asking questions designed to elicit a conclusion. Which it gave. And it gives you the little box saying what steps it’s supposedly following while it works.
Then I asked it to describe the processes it used to reach its conclusion.
Guess which of these occurred:
Edited to add:
I was out of the number of “advanced searches” I’m allowed on the free tier, so I did this manually.
Here is a conversation illustrating what I’m talking about.
Note that I asked it twice directly, and once indirectly, to explain its thinking processes. Also note that:
“Reasoning” AI is absolutely lying and absolutely hallucinating even its own processes. It can’t be trusted any more than autocorrect. It cannot understand anything which means it cannot reason.
Seems like none of these refer to information lookup services but to generative ai
I use Google search, gemini, and local llms of various models.
THIS is why I’m so fucking pissed at people like you.
You can’t even keep your stories straight from one post to another. You hallucinate more than all the LLMs of the world put together.
So, I put up my receipts for the claim that this shit is making you weaker. As far as I’m concerned, especially with your little instant-contradiction thing here, that pretty much establishes that you’re full of shit.
…and assuming I am an ai bro…
Oh, my. Someone coming to “Fuck AI” and defending AI for absurd amounts of time, who ignores evidence provided to counter his claims about the benefits of AI … why would anybody identify this as an aibrodude?
It’s a mystery.
But it’s not one that’s going to be solved with any more of my fucking time.
You missed the link, did you?
