Agreed. But remember Newsome and California in general have never been particularly “left” leaning even in the American sense. Newsome himself has always been extremely “pro-business,” and other then some PR stunts he did for the (rich) gay community like 20+ years ago, he’s been pretty indistinguishable from Arnold Schwarzenegger. Even a very visible, and popular voter initiative like High-Speed rail has gotten nothing by lip-service which is why it will never be anymore then a pipedream as long as people like him are in charge of the California Democratic party.

We use sex as a proxy for athletic potential in sports in order to keep things fair for women and men. Otherwise women’s sports wouldn’t exist at all because it’s a biological fact that male athletes are absolutely stronger/faster/better at basically any sport. No whatever corner case you throw out has no bearing on the above fact.

The mainstream existence of trans-athletes shows that we need a different way to create competitive leagues (just sex isn’t sufficient) so that trans-athletes can be included, but no one has an agreed upon solution for that yet.

Some of them did get primary challengers, but the primary process is broken by design so that real primary’s rarely are able to happen at all. The amount of effort to successfully primary an incumbant is hugely imbalanced compared to just being the incumbent that if the incumbent expends the barest effort, they are all but certain to maintain their seat in most single-party states.

So is this just a case where if you have a privileged user i.e. developer options, you can do things like change the time? I don’t think it’s incompetence. After-all they have successful defended the corporate duopoly for at least 50 years, probably longer. Sure there are some upstarts, but the machinations of the party ensure those people never get to actually threaten the status quo. Plus they make good sound-bytes so that the democrats can talk about how they are “fighting,” in unspecific ways.

Sounds like US democracy with the US voting system is deeply flawed and the only moral action is to no longer engage with it. Otherwise you are expected to choose between different approaches to an ongoing genocide.

People that have the need to share “personal stories” with basically strangers are looking for an audience first and foremost. Lemmy has way fewer people so the type of person trying to seek that attention will be going to facebook/twitter/reddit etc. If Lemmy was one of the top-ten most used sites, then we’d see a lot more of that kind of content.

The Democrats position on Israel is abhorrent, but I think it had very little to do with their electoral losses. When you talk about how during your 4-years in the presidency, that everything is the best it’s ever been yet material conditions do not reflect that, I don’t see how you can expect to defend the status quo against anyone.

Add in the debacle of having a public primary, then changing the candidate afterwards, shows voters that you aren’t even pretending to follow “the rules” for a democratic process, even if you are totally in the clear legally.

It’s bad optics, and it tells voters that you don’t really care and can’t be trusted.

I feel like the next time a democracy wants to protect itself from fascism, that the “constitutional” document should dictate what members of the government can and can’t do. And that the punishment for advocating for fascist policies is dismissal from the government forever.

If we took America’s Bill of Rights for example, advocating for laws that are on the surface against one of the amendments should result in that representative being removed from office. If Congress passes a law (not an amendment, but a law) then when that law is declared unconstitutional, they should all be dismissed with prejudice.

The right to privacy should be enshrined and people like her should be removed from office and never given a platform again.

This has always been possible with anything anyone has ever posted publicly before social media. I’m glad sheeple are waking up.
