  • Not really no, I haven’t bumped into any issues using the community wiki megathread so far.

My question was prompted by me accidentally using a old bookmark that took me to rentry and noticed that it had seen updates very recently and compared to lemmy community wiki which seemed like it has not been updated since october. I started wondering whether the links were still all fine and there was no need to update them, or was it simply mostly abandoned and do people rather use rentry?

I personally prefer the lemmy community edition, but I’m such a noob when it comes to piracy that I put maybe too much trust into the megathread and this was just a wake up call to double check what am I clicking on and thought maybe asking the community about the state of the wiki wasn’t a bad idea.

  • Yeah with the “old megathread upkept by reddit’s piracy community” I mean that one and noticed that it is getting more edits than the community one here.

Wanted to basically know whether the lemmy community megathread is basically unmaintained and should I just use the rentry one. I really like the idea of lemmy community megathread, but I feel like if it is not maintained it might be more of a hazard. But I’m no expert and wanted a community discussion about this.

Edit: wanted to add that this is a pirate community afterall, would be of no shame to … pirate rentry megathread to lemmy community wiki every once in awhile, har har har

  • I’m not going to say it’s not a me-problem, but disregarding the fact that if it was that simple it would be more widespread amongst people is making it seem as if we don’t try seriously and downplays the effort many like myself put in.

I care about privacy and about my close ones (as many here do) and I explain the issue to them in a nice way so to not come across as a pushy salesman, and they readily admit that they don’t want to put the effort in (effort as in learning something new, upkeeping with multiple apps, etc).

It’s not that I don’t know why they don’t switch immidiately - I know why. It’s simply that they don’t. It’s okay not to switch as long as you know the risks and I’ve explained the risks and they seem to understand it, but it’s not enough to get everyone to switch.

If life was that simple with everyone (I know some switch without hesitation) the world would be completely different.

You can explain to a decent normal person the imminent doom we are facing with climate change and they may understand it very well, but they still wont give up on using their car and switch to public transport immidiately, because it is an inconvenience.

  • I think piefed doesnt have an app yet, and it came relatively late to the fediverse as an alternative to lemmy, but I have high hopes they will finish an app soon!

I know it’s a bit of a bummer to be an early adopter of stuff at times, but the bright side is that it’s all exciting. I like the fediverse more and more every time I notice an update.

It’s been 1,5 years since I joined and holy moly was it cool to switch from webapp (jerboa app was there, but it was just not for me) to voyager when it was released.

  • I believe because it’s not just a different instance, it has a different backend to lemmy (voyager is a lemmy app).

Same reason why you can’t login to a Mbin instance on voyager. Only lemmy instances work with voyager.

Edit: I’m so bad at explaining but maybe this analogy helps: think of the difference between piefed and lemmy the same as mastodon and lemmy: the content is connected but they are different kinds of software.
