Caramel isn’t a flavour, it’s just burnt sugar. I don’t care for it. It’s sticky and unpleasant and I would rather it not be in my desserts.

    Definitely unpopular by any metric!

I’ll add to the list of folks explaining that the way you describe caramel isn’t accurate, as there is a difference between burnt sugar and caramel.

I’ll also add my own bit of opinion that not all caramel is equal. When made on the cheap, particularly in commercial sized batches, it’s way less likely to be anything other than why you say you don’t like it: sticky and unpleasant. Shitty caramel is most often not even caramel, it’s a flavored and thickened syrup, which will have only scant flavor beyond being cloying.

You probably wouldn’t like good caramel either though, So I won’t waste your time or mine explaining how to make it. But suffice it to say that if it’s homemade, you have much better control of the results, and thus a better chance of it being good.
