It’s been a common thing on this platform for a long time that there will be like 10 comments and someone will say that all the comments are horrible based on one of them being not great.
It can take a long time, sometimes several hours, for comments to synchronize across instances because of the way federation works. Not everyone has the same view of comments based on where they are coming from and where a comment originated.
You shouldn’t talk in absolutes like that about top level comments when you know you’ve taken steps that specifically hide content from your view. You can’t talk authoritatively in that situation.
Years ago this was a thing when my blocklist was like 5 long. Either you haven’t been here long or haven’t paid attention to this phenomenon like I have. Is it really an absolute if I provide a clear caveat that I might just not be seeing this?
something i’ve noticed after being on lemmy for a few months is the comments are absolutely worse than reddit’s. nearly every thread i click on, the top comment is someone speculating wildly on something they could have just googled in two seconds. reddit at least sometimes has decent comments at the top, but not lemmy. it’s not making me go back to reddit, but i’ve learned i prefer endless stupid jokes over anger derived from performative stupidity.
The phone was clearly on a mount. Not like she was interacting with the phone when the accident happened.
I hate tiktok as much as the next lemmy user, but damn some of the comments in here are unreasonably hostile (not to mention sexist).
Not a single top level comment is hostile or sexist. I’ve been a blocking spree lately so it’s possible that’s why I don’t see them but I just don’t.
Not sexist at all…

That might be the explanation sometimes but more commonly people read one thing they don’t like and get mad that it’s not shouted down.
Just looked again and don’t see it. Like I said I’ve blocked a lot of assholes.
