Fandom is such a shitshow… I was part of a wikia based wiki for more than a decade and experienced the transition following the buyout by fandom/curse.

The first thing they did was fire almost all the local staff and replace it by their people, then the enshittification began; they introduced a new discussion feed to replace the forum function (which was basically just lazy a Twitter clone). It was completely separate from the main wiki and pretty much killed off that side of the community. There were a lot of users that just used that without ever stepping a foot into the main wiki, which obviously isn’t very helpful when the site relies on users to create and maintain articles.

They also trippled the amount of ads on the site and introduced a new layout that fucked up the old one we had meticulously created.

I left that place in 2017 and so did pretty much all of the users and admins I knew. Once one of the top ten German language wikis, it’s pretty much abandoned now.
