It is so difficult to find modern electronics without telemetry and ads. Smartphones, laptops, TVs, home routers, security cameras, cars, game consoles, e-readers, projectors, 3D printers, fitness trackers, speakers, and even some printers. Why can’t customers be free from this data collection and advertising? It’s not that we don’t care about it. There simply aren’t many alternatives, and the few that do exist are either more expensive or offer fewer features. Seriously, we need a list of products we can buy and use directly without worrying about telemetry or advertising.

At the moment, I’m typing this on a desktop I built actually, but sure we can jump straight to the defeatist route.
Like it or not, Graphene is currently trapped in the ecosystem called “Pixel”, and promoting the former necessitates an investment in the latter, whether it be directly or indirectly. Graphene is working to change that, and I hope they succeed soon, but I’m not eager to buy even a used Pixel when Google’s doing everything in their power to backdoor the shit out of them with their proprietary OOTB firmware.
Your point is valid but using grapheneos outweighs the negative effect of supporting google. An alternative for many would be to buy an iphone. Just buy the pixel and support gos. Currently, there is no other alternative that is ready for most consumers.
We all want linux phones but we don’t even have state of the art linux tablet (on arm let alone risc v).

But it’s not just the financial support of Google, it’s also the integrity of their devices as a secure platform on which to run GrapheneOS.
I mean, you already can’t use GrapheneOS if you get a Pixel 11 because of the deliberately excluded MTE support by Google. You can’t guarantee the longevity of a project if its survival depends on hardware and firmware choices made by a company that is incentivized to kill it.
Agreed. Yet there is no alternative that is consumer ready. It’s the best we got.
