Most recently I ordered some merch from Atari and all of their mails went to spam, including responses from customer service, which is annoying because I thought they just never wrote back.

Not lately. My gmails Spam sections mostly have legitimate marketing and news emails that idiots have apparently reported as spam instead of just unsubscribing from.

It seemed pretty out of left field. Like, okay… I’m not clicking on any of that. No explanation of why someone would message me this and as I expected, it seems to have been some sort of widespread spam.

That’s what I do not understand. She does use home telephones the same way, on speaker, but with those she comprehends it’s not always in speaker mode and if not, to hold it up to her ear.

My mom has long been clueless and resistant about anything tech related. Years back I switched her laptop to Linux because I was so sick of all the stupid crap with malware on windows. We used to have to Fix her computer one or more times a month. With Linux, that went to zero, and the only issue was setting up the software to download images from her camera (this was about 2010). These days she has a Chromebook and is constantly convinced it’s “screwed up”.

My mother can’t comprehend how to use a cell phone without it being on speaker. She also doesn’t know how to switch it to speaker. If I hand her the phone in normal mode she holds it out in front of her and can’t figure out why she can’t hear anything.

That’s how Facebook went for me the last time I tried to use it with a new account… I was immediately swamped with friend requests from people in western and central Africa. I accepted some out of curiosity so of course FB decided that’s what I was really into. I’m not sure if these people just send out random requests or why they want to add Americans… I didn’t get hit up for scams or anything, it was just people posting and sharing photos of their lives as normal FB users.

Before the musk acquisition I had something like 8,000 people blocked… mostly the inane shit like “Patriot Christian Dog Mom” or incredible douchebags like “dc_draino”.

I mean, we’ve been saying this to people of this viewpoint on Lemmy all year and so far, not one I’ve seen has ever said “oh, you have a point”.
