It’s cult tactics cynical manipulators in those unmoderated spaces use to indoctrinate young adults and kids to exploit and groom. They target kids who don’t have defenses to their tactics yet, either their education didn’t yet include how to critically evaluate evidence & propositions or they just weren’t mentally ready for that responsibility before engaging with predators. They want to seem edgy and offer truths on topics the kids’ parents or teachers may not be willing to engage with to draw them in to appear like they have some knowledge or power to offer other than just hate and anger.

That can sometimes be an outcome of a moral choice after accepting nihilism (what are ethics beyond or without objective meanings?), but there’s nothing necessarily relating desires for chaos and destruction to subjectivism and nihilism. Some nihilists are all about order and building so the reason they gave is bogus. They just feel the word has negative connotations so they used it without understanding what it means. It would be like saying they are jaywalkers who just want to watch the world burn. Some of them may be jaywalkers, but it’s not the motivation for them being there or necessary for them being there in those spaces.

Google already changed logged out YouTube to a single row of recommendations and a button to login on roku and Android shield when it used to look like the logged in version just a couple weeks ago. Probably the kick I needed to get off, mostly just using it for a couple smaller call-in/debate streamers I can switch to a podcast or other version.

Downloading them would maybe be a good way to find if any of them are hard to find and someone else might appreciate a copy available even if the quality isn’t great. if they are findable in better quality but the VHS or DVD has ads, PSAs, bumpers, special features, etc between that might be rare too

Yeah they’re not going for productivity, they’re an AI company. They just want the appearance of it to juice up their valuation or to stroke an executive’s ego.

That’s ok, they can promise more with no intention of ever paying it because there’s a special privileged ‘preferred’ stock that the bigger investors and executives get that’s prioritized for sales and dividends before anyone else’s.

I’m still feeling that part out since it’s only been about a week, a full charge can last me multiple days (5100mAh) and the battery in my pixel 5 (4080mAh) was pretty run down.

No restart needed, pull down twice and the switcher is on the bottom right. Usually takes just a couple seconds to switch.

So far it’s been good for about a week. Highlights have been the easy install, secure by default but lets me override when I want (block app network access on install is awesome), and getting access to the other app repos than Google’s I haven’t seen since I installed dirty unicorns years ago. I setup multiple users so I can keep my primary like a root which was also simple to do.

Only complaints I have are when I get messages on another user than primary I can see the messages in the app but not the message content in the notification, its just a generic alert message like new messages received. Nice to have but not going to make me switch back. And the keyboard doesn’t have swipe typing so I use gboard with network access turned off.

Also I did install the Google app store to get a couple paid apps and calendar/contacts I need to move out of Google. It does sandbox by default which is really cool and i think should be required for phone manufacturers. I just disabled services/store/calendar access to the network after I let it download everything.

Edit: also not a OS thing but I tried switching VPN to orbot/tor at the same time and it is still really unreliable for that use with the way so many sites try to sniff out your location
