Linux@lemmy.ml•What distro do you install on other's computers?
1·30 days agoI’d use Nixos, with flatpak for user packages

Linux@lemmy.ml•Can kids under 10 be possibly taught coding, without even mentioning the word syntax to them ??
7·1 month agoAs soon as they can read a little, they can program. Visual languages or text even. They need a very user friendly env but kids pick up QUICK
I was coding Lua at 13, when I learned I def felt like I could have learned earlier. I was surprised the basic concept was so easy.

Programming@programming.dev•Do you actually read documentation, or just search it when you’re stuck?
2·1 month agoI read, when you read you gain very deep insight if it’s written well

Linux@lemmy.ml•Is it so hard to get Nvidia GPUs working with Linux?
2·2 months agoSo it actually works by process for my PC. Some memory mapping shenanigans for sure. Basically you set some environment variables when you launch a process and it will run of the dedicated gpu instead. Either port will show the same image

Linux@lemmy.ml•Is it so hard to get Nvidia GPUs working with Linux?
5·2 months agoOn Nixos haven’t had any issues. I did have issues getting the dynamic GPU thing going through. That’s a bit of a technical challenge at-least on Nixos
It’s cause you said “would” not “does”

62·2 months ago“Waa waaaa waaaa waaaa.” Bootlicker. That’s what we are doing, we don’t like it so we don’t use it and tell people why we don’t like it. What more do you want? That’s exactly what you are advocating for, free speech. If I don’t like your ideas even if your product is “good” I’m not going to use it. Because usually those “good” projects are seeped in ideology, or just aren’t even good lol.
Cancel culture this cancel culture that, that’s all I hear from whiny right wing wackos who think the world shouldn’t have consequences.
Part of it too is companies not developing for Linux first. If user switched to Linux overnight and there was more demand the experience would get better exponentially when it comes to driver and hardware. Any OS can pretty much implement any feature for any hardware. There isn’t really any magic that’s unique to any of them. Just styling and interface.
That relative mouse support is a big one. Very excited to try that out

Linux@lemmy.ml•Sonetimes i feel like its a lot of work to stick with linux
11·3 months agoI’m on the opposite end with Nixos. Hard as fuck to use but god is it stable. Especially when you start leaning into things like impermanence and flakes. Crazy learning curve / upfront effort
It’s can go both ways for sure… maybe not in this case but…
Better yet, cash

Programming@programming.dev•Which is more important to you in a language, feature richness or documentation quality?
1·3 months agoI’m going to save this because it sums up the problem perfectly

I’m dealing with this currently. Thank you all for confirming that I’m not crazy
