There’s TOML also which is very good for low-nesting, human authore data

Privacy@lemmy.ml•I don't understand how Moxie Marlinspike's Confer "Private LLM" works
31·2 months agoFor both MobileCoin and Signal the TEE are not relied upon for the security of the general application but only for some convenience feature that are required for mass adoption but that you can go without using them.
Also, while TEE are not bulletproof, in such a server situation, it means that getting user data means much more invasive compromise than just querying the database. It’s an imperfect solution, but an improvement nonetheless.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Self-hosting in 2026 isn't about privacy anymore - it's about building resistance infrastructureEnglish
12·2 months agoWell they are a serious company with serious engineering capabilities. Just know that whoever runs the control server can control your network, and almost everyone uses Tailscale’s centralised control server, so they control the networks of almost all of their customers. Most of their customers are for internal use by companies which don’t care about relying on SaaS products. But if you self-host for resilience, using Tailscale doesn’t make much sense without also self-hosting the control server through the unofficial headscale implementation.

57·2 months agoJust FYI unless you self-host headscale, tailscale is centralised and not private. They claim it is end to end encrypted but their proprietary centralised control server distributes the keys, so they could very easily MITM you.
Tailscale is good tech and good crypto, but Applied cryptography cannot solve a security problem. It can only convert a security problem into a key-management problem, and tailscale does not do decentralised key management.
Fair response. I just hope you’ll have it in mind if you stumble on other of this guy’s stuff. He’s terrible.
WTF I never said you must watch the video… OP answered they don’t even know who it is that’s perfectly reasonable. I I won’t pressure them into learning more about Lunduke. Nobody deserves that.
Just FYI Lunduke is a fascist or at least very fascist adjacent: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhqeuO9RKKk

1·3 months agoIf you don’t understand the cryptography enough that you have to ask about telegram, just use Signal. It’s the best designed app for the security of most people, it doesn’t have any privacy/security footgun, and has a pretty good threat model while not cutting corners on usability.

11·3 months agoThere’s no debate. The CEO is a compulsive liar who misleads people about how encryption works. Every one who knows how encryption works and have looked at Telegram will tell you Telegram is not encrypted

3·3 months agoSignal is well designed enough that Jurisdiction doesn’t matter much. The only things you’ll find that can br arguably better than signal are fully decentralized apps that go over TOR like Briar or Simplex but these have a lot less usage because they’re so slow and terrible for your battery.

211·5 months agoIt’s pretty plain on DHH’s blog:
In 2000, more than sixty percent of the city were native Brits. By 2024, that had dropped to about a third. A statistic as evident as day when you walk the streets of London now.
I wonder what characteristic he uses to define « native brits » that can be seen when walking.
Or just take a look at his twitter. Which Framework obviously did since they retweet a lot of his posts…

31·5 months agoGood thing the people here are not asking for the government to ban Omarchy/hyprland, but asking “normal people” to not associate with known assholes, which is a very normal thing to ask for. And defending your right to associate with assholes whitout being shamed about it makes you look very much like an asshole.
