Lmao wife, WiFi, waifu? Where does one begin and one end I don’t even know.

They had to give us something for all that telemetry to keep their entirely educated and tech savy user base on board. 🙄

Nisce I haven’t heard of OSMAnd or Magic Earth I’ll have to poke around!

Idk I started using organicmaps (comaps now) long long ago. I guess I don’t have a great fundamental understanding of search. Are not most other search engines just hopping on the back of google search engines? I honestly don’t know. Its not an area I’ve spent a lot of time learning about - or maybe I’m just a backwards dude haha.

Its a good suggestion and something I’ve considered. Unfortunately we’re using conduit as our server and that type of integration doesn’t seem to work well outside of synapse. That said I know some people have gotten it working I just need to dig a little deeper. It’s a chore for sure but it seems like the only path forward.

I wish I could convince my giant discord community to go anywhere else. It’s so fucking hard. I’ve built IRC networks and a matrix server. I host every fediverse app imaginable. I hate being attached to this company and my income being reliant on it.

Someone recommended Kagi in another thread yesterday and that night I finally became 100% google free. Search was the last big hurdle. I was literally the biggest google fanboy. I had google home devices, google wifi, I wanted all their devices, had all their services, everything was set up and integrated. De-googling was fucking hard but I did it and I’m super proud and I’ve learned so much about how tech works setting up my replacement services and devices. Fuck you Google.

I’ve been curious about running a hardware firewall/router, I’ve seen it discussed but don’t know much about it. I also hear a lot of people swear by their proxmox setups but I am a complete noob there so again more research would be required. What I’ve heard about running a proxmox setup has looked overwhelming at a glance.

yeah a TV box was definitely pretty high up on my possible uses list.

lol I haven’t heard the “RAID is not a backup” before but it’s true I’ll have to see how I would manage that and what data would be a good candidate for this implementation.

I have a ton of handhelds I usually use for this purpose and a pretty powerful workstation I use to run heavier games but I’ve thought about like a tv box setup for doing such activities in the living room. Could be fun.

Another good suggestion. I’ll have to look into how to get this set up I haven’t tackled something like this before.

Thanks I have a dark corner or two, this sounds like an interesting idea.

Thanks for the response. I currently am housing something like 24TB of data give or take so unfortunately I don’t think they’d make effective backups. There’s simply too much. I have my current storage array in RAID6 so that’s my backup solution at the moment.
holy fucking shit 🤌💪🤯❤️💯

The science gets done and the car’s a lot of fun for the people who areeee still aliiiive 🎂

lol it did save me from my first rm -rf /

I’m not a programmer by any stretch but what LLM’s have been great for is getting my homelab set up. I’ve even done some custom UI stuff for work that talks to open source backend things we run. I think I’ve actually learned a fair bit from the experience and if I had to start over I’d be able to do way way more on my own than I was able to when I first started. It’s not perfect and as others have mentioned I have broken things and had to start projects completely from scratch but the second time through I knew where pitfalls were and I’m getting better at knowing what to ask for and telling it what to avoid.
I’m not a programmer but I’m not trying to ship anything either. In general I’m a pretty anti-AI guy but for the non-initiated that want to get started with a homelab I’d say its damn near instrumental in a quick turnaround and a fairly decent educational tool.

this made me lol
Indeed, seems the only path forward. Thansk for sharing.
