poVoq@slrpnk.netto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Fully self-hosted password manager optionsEnglish3·3 days agoYou can open the browser extension menu and press the fill button. The autofill never seems to have worked here on my mobile Firefox 🤷
In theory you can also self-host Firefox sync, but well… there seem to be issues with that.

poVoq@slrpnk.netto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•What Nextcloud document service setup would you recommend?English27·7 days agoWhat you need to be aware off is that the LibreOffice based options run a full headless LibreOffice client on the server for each connecting user and stream the view as tiles to the webclients. If you mostly use low power devices to access your office files remotely this can be great as it offloads the processing to the server. But I think in most home server or VPS settings the server speed is the more limiting factor.
OnlyOffice on the other hand runs entirely in your browser and thus puts little extra strain on the server.
poVoq@slrpnk.netto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Is it useful to create your own Mastodon instance?English51·9 days agoGoToSocial is just another Fediverse software that works with multiple users like any other. The difference is really only that it is tuned more towards smaller instances and as a result is easier to set up and maintain. It also assumes most people will be using a mobile app with it anyways and thus the built in webclient is very bare bones. It does work fine with external webclients like Phanpy though.
poVoq@slrpnk.netto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•What CI/CD tools are you guys using? I have Forgejo but I need a simple way of running automation.English2·13 days agohttps://github.com/agola-io/agola
Maybe, but I ended up with Woodpecker for now.
poVoq@slrpnk.netto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•What CI/CD tools are you guys using? I have Forgejo but I need a simple way of running automation.English1·13 days agoYou might want to look into: https://github.com/lab132/buildbot-gitea
I used that together with Pure Maps on Ubuntu Touch. Works pretty well 👍
GoToSocial works without problems on Podman, they probably just meant that they can’t give technical support for it.
👍 for hosting a xmpp server. Next step is to get a real domain name!
poVoq@slrpnk.netto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Best approach to selfhosting Synapse (Matrix)?English2·14 days agoYou must have last used XMPP more than a decade ago, since none of these issues still exist (except on Pidgin which also hasn’t been updated since a decade).
And XMPP is also not a “chatty protocol, and wasteful of network bandwidth” at all. In fact it is using significantly less bandwidth than Matrix and works on extremely shitty connections. It is basically the exact opposite of what you say.

This is like a full set of bullshit bingo on one page 🤦♂️
poVoq@slrpnk.netto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Best approach to selfhosting Synapse (Matrix)?English7·15 days agoSynapse has become open-core and the possible alternatives are either abandoned or are currently in a really unclear state. And due to how Matrix federation works, it is quite difficult to change anything later and if you are unhappy with the setup you have basically burned a domain and need to start fresh on another. If you just want a chat server I would rather suggest to set up a XMPP server with a Slidge.im Matrix bridge.
That said: there are easy to use official Docker containers for Synapse, and you just need a redirect in your reverse-proxy for some sub-directories to put it on the same domain than something else. There are also some other, more complex ways to do it, but just redirecting the subdirectories is the easiest.
Could you explain what makes Calendly different from the hundreds of online calendar solutions that exists and can often be self-hosted? I never used it, so it is hard to make a recommendation for an alternative.
poVoq@slrpnk.netto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•conduwuit, “featureful fork of conduit” (Rust Matrix homeserver), is discontinuedEnglish3·17 days agoI find Cheogram and Monocles to be good looking and featureful clients, so not sure what exactly you mean. They are certainly not any worse than WhatsApp, Threema or Signal in that regard.
On iOS I agree though… Monal is not bad per se, but it needs some work on the UI side of things.
poVoq@slrpnk.netto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•How do you handle absolutely critical alerts on your Android phone?English31·17 days agoXMPP is best for that IMHO.
poVoq@slrpnk.netto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•conduwuit, “featureful fork of conduit” (Rust Matrix homeserver), is discontinuedEnglish20·17 days agoYou know that even Synapse is not following the specs? Basically the specs follow Synapse, often with a huge time lag.
Conduit has been hit by that many timed when they tried to follow the specs, just to realize they are outdated and incompatible with Synapse.
poVoq@slrpnk.netto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•conduwuit, “featureful fork of conduit” (Rust Matrix homeserver), is discontinuedEnglish131·17 days agoGood time to switch to XMPP 😅
Technically it is possible, and I have heard rumors about some eastern European providers given unique public IPs on request, but practically no, not possible/available.
Basically a VPN where the endpoint is a VPS or a specialized service that offers a public IP.
Like a sister comment here already said, mini-ITX boards and cases often come with unexpected space contraints, and annoying things like the RAM not fitting under the CPU cooler etc.
You will probably save yourself some hassle if you go for one of these N100 NAS boards that come with a soldered on CPU and a built in cooler.
