2·7 months agoFoolish votes maybe, but not fools, if they are showing solidarity with their neighbor and coworker who happens to be undocumented. This is progress, and they will be further awakened when Trump attacks Medicaid and Medicare.

1·7 months agoI think that you’re missing the point here. People who had some vision of ICE taking out violent criminals now see something different and they they are taking a stand against it. And it’s not happening to them, but to a single Chinese worker who they all love. That’s solidarity, even if they may not call it such. Something similar happened in NY state in the town of the border czar.
These events give me hope for the future. There is no point at all in finger-wagging at Trump voters. When the tariffs and Medicaid cuts come down, we will see many more people’s consciousness change.

4·1 year agoNo, there is no “right” choice here, if you mean something that is going to benefit Palestine and Gaza in the short term. The vast majority of those who voted against Harris knew that Trump won’t be better, but they could not go along with a candidate actively involved in genocide. Plus, they wanted to let the Democrats know that they would pay a price for their treachery. As it turned out, the pro-Palestine vote against Harris had a very clear effect in Michigan and Wisconsin, but it can’t be blamed for her defeat.

United States | News & Politics@lemmy.ml•Swing-State Voters Disillusioned With Kamala Harris Can Swap for Two Non-Swing-State VotesEnglish
45·1 year agoI just learned about this around 11:45pm ET November 4. I signed up as a swing-state voter, and in 5 minutes got connected with 2 safe-state voters who agreed to vote for Jill Stein as a swap for my (very reluctant) vote for Harris. I feel much better now. :-)

43·1 year agoI think that the main reason is that he was virtually alone in predicting Hilary Clinton’s loss in 2016 and then created a very incisive film about it. He’s been a supporter of Bernie Sanders in past campaigns and consistently argues for an orientation towards working-class politics as opposed to prevailing corporate liberalism of the Democrats. Now some would say that supporting the Democrats at all is a betrayal, but I’m staying out of that one for now.

Peter Link@lemmy.mlOPtoLemmy Support@lemmy.ml•how do I create a post in Mastodon that can go to a Lemmy communityEnglish
32·1 year agoThanks a lot for your help. You are right about placement of community - I have mine way down in the post, but it is before other non-Lemmy groups.
One silly error I made when I started testing was that I tried to send the message non-public, so I wouldn’t send garbage to Mastodon followers. That didn’t work for getting it to Lemmy - I had to have my test post be public before I started seeing them in test lemmy.ml.
Also, I found that putting “[News]” in front of the title in Mastodon post doesn’t carry over well to Lemmy, so I don’t do that now.
Here is my simple prototype:
Title of news article
text, text
URL of article
hashtags (too many)
@palestine AT lemmy.ml (but entered correctly there)
2 more @ mentions to gup.pe groups
================
Thanks again for your posts!

Sorry, it’s working now.
