I sometimes wonder if my current car will be my last new car. My car has some tracking that I can supposedly disable, so I understand the appeal of classic cars more. I might have to pick up a mint condition early 2000s car for my midlife crisis.

Every day my investment portfolio is losing between $1000-$10000. I wish he’d just fuck off for a week (well or forever) and not screw with anything, but alas that is his plan.

I cashed out some stock that seemed extra volatile: Ford, some tech stocks, and anything travel related. I opened a CD with the proceeds, and I’ll just sit on it for a year until things hopefully calm down. Interest rates on CDs are around 4% if you shop around. It’s not the best return, but it’s better than getting completely pummelled in the stock market.

All in all that wasn’t a ton of money and my 401ks aren’t worth touching until things get crazier, so basically I’m just holding the line and trying to save a few profits where possible. Gold is probably a good idea, but I’m not a very sophisticated trader.

I think him simultaneously ruining the stock market and dismantling social security might just jostle people enough to wake up and pay attention.

Those numbers seem really high. I live in a city with a lot of gun violence; I hear gunshots weekly, but I have never witnessed a shooting of another person. I have seen videos of local gun violence online and in the news, but I have a hard time believing it is that prevalent.

I’ve worked on projects for the government as a contractor. There is SQL; SQL as far as the eye can see. I’m sure the NSA has some novel solutions to crunching shittons of big data, but day to day, at least in my experience, it is a lot of relational CRUD and reporting queries.

Hulu was my Netflix alternative. If they start showing me ads I’m done with them too. Hopefully this was added for live events, sports, etc, but I don’t know if they deserve the benefit of the doubt.

The QR code offering a virtual tasting blows my mind. Do they send you an airplane bottle? Do they describe the wine as someone else drinks it? Do you have to jack in?

It’s just a word at the end of the day. To me “main” is literally a shorter word that means the same thing in my brain. It could be “trunk” or “release” or whatever else you’d like. “master” makes some people uneasy, so it seems like a simple solution to pick a different word.

The development community talked, informally settled on main, and here we are. Anecdotally it took me more time to write this than to switch most of my projects over. I use GitHub actions and a simple find/replace for a word not otherwise commonly used was the ticket.

I really don’t care what other people use at the end of the day. Discussing version control and branching strategies drains my life away. If it is difficult to switch, don’t, but if you start a new repo it is worth thinking about for a moment.

Main is more concise and less problematic. A win all around.

At my Walgreens there are usually some people in the pharmacy, one person on the registers and maybe one person in cosmetics. I’m not bugging the only cashier to unlock toothpaste that costs double what it does anywhere else.

You would probably be able to run it. It will run like crap, but it will likely start. Postgres can run on as little as 8mb of ram, but not well. I’d recommend a box with at least 2gb of ram if you want to spin up multiple containers.

sqlite would probably be a better choice on an aging pi, but I’m sure you have your reasons.
