Reminds me of when Google Talk first rolled out as a service that utilized XMPP/Jabber, and then by the time their users made up like 90% of the xmpp comm unity, they stopped using the protocol, made it not interoperable with anything else, all but killed XMPP, turned Google Talk into Google Hangouts, than Google Duo, and I’m not sure where it ended but it too is a shell of its former self.
I think they like to flaunt the OSS card, not so much into the FL part. ;-)
yes. I really wish we could establish a relay that didn’t allow bitcoinbois so folks could choose to only connect to that relay.
naw, Bluesky users have already turned down mastodon. Lets pick another one they haven’t heard of yet Bluesky->Misskey
Or you could do all of the above ->Nostr
do you know how long between first release “open sourcing” occured? It looks like the current version of Pixelfed is published under the AGPL which is a strong Free Software licesne that all but requires an online open source development model in additon to protection of the four esssential freedoms.
The use license on https://loops.video/legal/terms-of-service appears to actually violate all four of the essetntial freedoms.
I agree it woudl be a big ask even if the platforms could support it. I don’t precieve anytime that it would even be a good idea to directly encourage such behavior. The #twittermigration and #redditmigration where natural occurences that hit the 'verse hard. I believe they were a net good for ActivityPub and Free Software as a whole, but for many users the hiccups at that time where enough to sour them to “decentralization.”
Apparently its from a group called the Insitutie for Network Cultures, which at least looks like its been around since the earliest days of what we used to call decentralized microblogging https://networkcultures.org/geert/2025/01/30/join-global-switch-day-on-february-1st-2025/.
Reminds me a lot of leftists who speak of “when the revolution comes” for decades and never even try to organize their workplace.
What devs would ever consider such a clearly bad idea?
None that have any experience whatsoever. Maybe a college intern with more ideals than smarts.
dont’ be a pendantic grammar commie.
I think INS said it best
Of course, the corpo-silos are attuned to the phenomenon, trying to adapt their marketing lingo with cool buzz words like “Federated”, “Decentralized” and so on… Some nerds who fell for it jumped from one corporate hell-hole into another, are asking us to give them 30 million dollares americanos. This amount is needed to add “fire exits” to bluesky (AKA, to decentralize it). You know, in case the silo turns out to be ehm… well another silo. After all, we can’t just use anything to talk to each other: It has to have a je ne sais quoi of sex-appeal!

Fuck that guy!
so if the majority want fascism it can’t be a democracy? I thought democracy was majority rule. Can it not be that majoirty rule itself IS the issue?
government is so weird There, fixed it for ya.
By every definition of democracy I’m familiar with the Republic of India is a democratic government. Do you think it’s not? If so, why not?
Good point. I would consider SMS, MMS, Phone call & email “normal” but it woulda probably been better if I used a different term, maybe “long established protocols?”
The only people I know who use WhatsApp are Indian. The only reason I have ever used WhatsApp is many of my Indian friends are unreachable by any normal means. And it was that way since before Meta ever bought them. If Modi tried to completely eliminate WhatsApp than people would be upset about it.
The largest democracy in the world. Democracy is majority rule so unless the majority are firm about not wanting this no reason for the government to prevent it. Heck, I wouldn’t be surprised if the majority of Indians are in favor of such things.
I’ve never got Jami to actually work.
yeah, I work in automotive and “vehicle inhibit” is definatley a feature we have. I could be wrong but I think its actually a legal requirement now to sell in certain jurisdictions (I don’t work in that side of the company).
I really like the idea of openvibe, but every time I have tried to use it my whole phone crashes.
