I went with Willow related naming.

My main server and NAS is Madmartigan. Proxmox server is Willow. Headless gaming machine is Sorsha. Bedroom/office laptop is Elora Danan Living room laptop is High Aldwin Then two raspberry Pi’s named Rool and Franjean.

I’m not even into Willow that much, I just wanted to find a world of characters I liked.

Based on the first episode of Diggnation reboot, Kevin Rose is just another empty tech bro now (maybe always?). I have zero positive expectations of this new Digg venture and that’s probably optimistic.

I think I might be able to help with Bazaar settings if you still want to try it. It took a lot of playing around with things, there weren’t any guides at the time I set it up. But I can send you screenshots of my settings and highlight the crucial settings.

That’s what I use. It goes under the radar a lot and I don’t know why. I love that it shows me my sabnzb downloads and what streams are happening on Jellyfin at a glance.

I have had the opposite experience. I watch a few left-leaning commentary channels. Sam Seder, my boy Jesse Dollomore. If I watch a single video about guns (with no apparent ideological divide), within a single refresh I’m getting Shapiro and Jordan Peterson videos. I’m in a red Western state. My subscriptions are mostly mental health, tech, and woodworking. I have to delete history if I stray even a little bit.

My preference is just Cloudflare with or without nginx. Not sure if you’re using a hypervisor or not but it makes things exceedingly easy and I feel plenty safe enough inside of a Cloudflare tunnel. I stream a lot of data from Jellyfin. All day long, several streams to several people for over a year now with no problems. Last I knew, Cloudflare removed the language about video streaming from their TOS. Not sure if that’s changed but functionality on my end hasn’t.

I am using Unraid but I’ve installed the Cloudflare tunnel in docker containers and TrueNAS without many issues. Takes a bit of copying/pasting to get set up but it’s not terrible and everything is very responsive to make sure you’re doing things correctly.

And that’s fine. Totally fine. I wouldn’t use judgemental words or words with a negative connotation to describe their lack of storage because I feel that’s an absolutely fine stance to have.

It is now, for people who have some form of income into old age. When all the pensions are milked dry and social security and Medicare are on the chopping block, longevity will go along with it.

If you happen to go the Unraid route (Unraid is fantastic, but not free) Spaceinvader One on YouTube has great tutorials. That’s where I got most of my info initially. It’s definitely worth it and I think a good deal easier. I am not good with code and really like having a visual interface and it helps with that. I am not a master at any of this but I’ve learned a lot and I’m pretty comfortable now. To do a YouTube series myself, I feel like I’d need to know more. But there are definitely resources out there to get you going. If you follow some of this and run into problems, feel free to reach out to me. Or the selfhosted community here has been amazing. But you might start with one of the aforementioned frameworks. I think it’s easier than going straight to docker. Docker isn’t difficult, but managing IPs and networks and ports can cause some frustration and confusion.

This guy has a pretty good install on home assistant operating system (HAOS is important. Not just home assistant, but HAOS). When you have HAOS up and running, you can add the repository that Alex Belgium has created. He’s done a great job at getting so many docker containers ready to go in home assistant. Huge, huge props to the guy. And once you have the repository, you can start to install the individual containers and it’s not terrible. I think Spaceinvader One’s videos can get you through much of it. Just skip the installation part and go to setup.

It’s a lot and I can’t go step by step but I will answer and help in someone’s journey as best as I’m able to.

Quality and ease. Torrents don’t always have enough seeders or they disconnect. You can get by on them, but it’s a case of getting what you pay for. I go through a lot of media as do my friends using my server. The cost is negligible and basically means I have no headaches.

Find a spare/cheap computer. Install home assistant/unraid/TrueNAS (bunch of platforms that run docker and have app installers but any of those three are pretty easy to get running). Pay for access to a Usenet backbone provider and one or two Usenet search providers. Black Friday will have some sales on yearly subscriptions. Install Jellyfin, Radarr, Sonarr, Jellyseer, and Bazaar (if you’re huge into subtitles like me). Alternatively, also install and setup Prowlarr. Get your Usenet stuff working in Prowlarr. Point Radarr and Sonarr at Prowlarr. Point Jellyseer at Sonarr and Radarr. Share with friends. I will personally handhold anyone who wants to do this for themselves.

I know I definitely did. I really had to cut back a lot. It was feeling problematic. But as I started getting back out into society (I happily isolated from everyone) and wanting to socialize over beers or cocktails, so many of my friends have quit altogether. I assume many due to their drinking during quarantine.

Yeah I started using Actual about a week ago. Setup SimpleFin in a few seconds within a couple of minutes actual was auto populated. I ran into a syncing snag and messaged Simple Fin support. They worked with my credit union and I was all good in a couple of hours. Been running smoothly ever since. I really like it. And I don’t have the guilt of not budgeting anymore. Plus, ynab tutorials and advice are basically Actual tutorials.

I love this idea of billionaires making bunkers. Pretty sure I can afford the quikrete and wheelbarrows needed to make this a better world.

Money isn’t necessarily a factor. I’ve paid for many services that have made business or operating changes to the point of needing to separate and then there’s WinZip on the other side of things.
