I’m old enough to remember when this was a thing. TV didn’t have a remote, 3 main channels. That era.

The thing that hasn’t changed is people wanting to talk about their favorite media. What has is the arena. I don’t know irl people watching what I watch. So I end up talking with other fans on Discord or watching youtubers geek out like I am.

The trick is not falling for parasocial relationships with these people gathered around the virtual water cooler.

She’s been doing a rehabilitation slash apology tour. Going on air with CNN and the show The View.

Toning down the crazy, amping up the support of survivors, calling out hypocritical actions and words in her party. She’s been saying things like “I follow Jesus, not DjT/maga/Q/whatever”

She’s been getting tons of absolute critics saying, “I can’t believe I agree with MTG!”

She’s plotting something and needs the middle and rational to see her as viable for whatever it is.

She’s savvy. Maybe she’s a true believer in Q, maybe not. But I’d bet a shiny nickel she’s doing all this for a reason. And not because she’s afraid for her life. She has a plan in motion.

This is what I want. To be able to put on a hat and sunglasses and have it obscure me.

Not for nefarious reasons, I’m pretty boring. It’s the principle of the thing.

Yeah, except if he knew everyone that entered the apartment at any time was recorded, it would maybe have been a deterrent.

Her other option could be a hidden nanny cam trained on the door so she’d have proof she wasn’t crazy.

But again the issue isn’t people wanting to know who is outside their door, or entering without their knowledge. The issue is the camera companies keeping all the footage for themselves.

We have an off brand camera aimed at our porch for porch pirates. It’s not going to get someone walking by on the street. We have it only recording to the sdcard.

But we can live view and it alerts through the app. We don’t use the cloud service or AI. But there’s nothing stopping the app from screenshotting alerts and sending them somewhere.

I’m trying to figure out how to have an actual closed system so only computers under my control can access camera(s)

I think what will happen is no orders = no crops. They’ll grow something else or nothing else. And that’ll create a scarcity or perception of scarcity.

But maybe I’m wrong and some things will get cheaper, or at least not more expensive.

My Dad did construction for 40 years. Even before the companies started hiring a lot of immigrants, it’s hard to find roofers.

It’s a hard to find people with the knowledge or ability to learn - that are also not afraid of heights and have the coordination to not fall off and the attention to detail to not make the conditions for other people to fall.

How many heirs fighting in courts all over the world does it take to redistribute a multi-billioniare’s wealth through court fees, lawyer fees, accountants, penalties, etc until none of them are supreme-wealthy anymore? Just never work again wealthy.

Even if some of them don’t really want it, they could still find lawyers to fight on contingency and let them drain the wealth. Then donate whatever they might eventually get, if anything.

For example, Anna Nicole and her late husband’s son effectively fed lawyers for years and years. Michael Jackson’s estate has been tied up in litigation for decades. And Mike had 3 kids, Anna one surviving kid.

With over a dozen and counting Leon kids, and a ton of potential other types of suits incoming from world-wide plantiffs, it’ll be interesting to see how that estate eventually gets drained and dispersed.

I have a 70+ year old friend that paper files. She doesn’t trust the free file places available here (USA). I don’t blame her.

I print things for her on my 1999 laser jet if she needs something printed.

Many years I paper filed just to inconvenience them slightly for not offering free file.

Is there a community for those of us with late 90s early 2000 HP laserjets? Somewhere we can discuss maintenance, feeding, and overall care?

In college, early 90s, our student IDs had our photo and SSN on it

I’ve operated ever since under rhe assumption anyone and everyone has access to it.

Then with all the data breaches over the last 10/15 years? Freeze credit reports with the 3 reporting agencies for free. Check for extra accounts with the free annual credit report pulls.

For all practical purposes, our SSNs are easily obtained by someone who wants it.

I’m not sure what the solution is, but a unique identifier has to be housed somewhere where in can be accessed in a format humans can read, which means it can be accessed and dumped so it’s no longer private or secret.

I’m not a fan of biometrics, and I tolerate 2FA. I really think it’s more important we change how we think about and use personal, unique, identifiers (like SSNs)

Seriously. I managed a small rock band for a while. We got picked to tour with another band in some clubs in Eastern Europe. This was pre-Spotify, but Facebook strong.

We had no CD sales pre-tour to these places, just some views on youtube. We were relying a lot on the other band.

But the people that came to the shows?They knew the words and sang along and we had a great time.

Someone had our music and shared it before we got there. And we were grateful for those pirates!! And yes, we sold some merch and CDs at the shows.

If not for the pirates it would have been a much different experience with a lot less people showing up.

Our band never “made it” but it was still a successful tour and a helluva lot of fun. In large part because our music was pirated and shared ahead of time.
