There absolutely are Americans who get insulted when you make fun of Trump, you can meet them at any Trump rally. I’d also point out, Trump insulted the PM and the entirety of Canada.

Pretty standard business practice for the U.S. is “The Customer Can Always Get Fucked.” There’s a lot of money that’s basically just been stolen from me because I got tired with fighting the company to just ship me the thing I paid for, and I either bought the thing somewhere else or decided I didn’t want it anymore. Most companies don’t even actually have customer service, just chatbots or outsourced chumps who only seem to exist for Americans to yell at, because they have no authority to do, view, or fix anything.

I dunno if I’d say it’s never been good in those two decades. There’s definitely been a few great Standards Wizards lucked into, and they had a really strong run of limited formats for awhile too. It’s definitely been trending downward for the last two decades though, and largely because of unchecked corporate greed.

A lot of those Dems who hated gays 15 years ago are still in power, btw. They never got primary challengers and just remained in power for decades.

The United States has been collapsing for decades. A force like Trump became an inevitablity after you allowed education standards to be destroyed, right-wing propoganda to run rampant, and billionaires to be held unaccountable for their roles in crashing the U.S. economy.

The number of Americans who have actually been fighting to prevent us from getting to this point is a very, very small group. You voted for this, regardless of whether or not you voted for the orange fascist or the controlled opposition. We’re here now because the American people have consistently voted for this inevitability for decades.

Yes, it’s a really, really great letter IMO. Almost sad how well it applies to what’s currently happening.

I’m honestly not sure. I can definitely say those local campaigns I worked on received support mostly from queer people and people of color. I’m not sure how many minorities in the US still identify as moderates after the way the empire has treated them, but I know there are blocs of super Catholic South American migrants and ex-Soviet EEU migrants who hate leftism.

I was using the phrase to refer to MLK’s letter where he specifically calls out “the white moderate” as being one of his greatest obstacles on the path towards civil rights. If you’ve never read through the letter, I highly recommend it, as it describes the white moderate perfectly.

I wasn’t aware of any previous connotations, my apologies. I just didn’t want to call them limp-dicks, it felt too gendered and crass. I’ve always seen it as a cleaner version of that. Is limp-dick also meant to be a gay slur? I’ve edited the post to just use weak-ass.

Outsmarted and outmanoeuvred? The left has been trying to make progress for decades. I’ve personally worked on some of those local campaigns. The problem is that the American people routinely rejected us, every single time. We never had any corporate donors or massive amounts of personal donations, no large media support to help get the word out, so is it any wonder we kept losing? There was a brief hope that social media would help level the playing field, but we all saw how quickly that got corrupted by fascists.

The white moderate did not want socialism, so they have gotten fascism.

People hate it when you bring up how shitty both sides are, but this is what lib centrists have been supporting for decades. When you promise a guaranteed vote for nothing in return out of a theory of harm reduction election after election, you’re left with a party so out of touch, so intellectually stunted, that they’re struggling with the mere concept of being an opposition party.

Unfortunately, the time to do anything about it has passed. Progressives and leftists have been shouting about how awful the Dems are since Bill Clinton, but instead we always had to “Vote Blue No Matter Who” and that our time would come someday. We could have spent the last 10 years primarying out all these weak-ass corporate stooges, but nobody wanted to divide the party. Now, we’ll be lucky to still have midterms in 2026.

I have a very hard time imagining Trump will keep his word, but you gotta respect Sheinbaum for getting as much as she could. Trump might be feeling very pro gun control now that he’s in power though, so maybe there’s hope for a broader deal to help secure Mexico’s border from the flow of illegal American firearms.

100%, and it’s what makes me even more incensed that centrists are trying to point the blame at the tiny, miniscule leftist portion of the country that voted third party or sat out.

Even in the absolute best case scenario, Harris was going to have a contested election. She was never winning in a landslide, and Trump had already laid the foundation to contest the election. The currently corrupt Supreme Court was going to hand Trump the presidency 6-3 come hell or high water, the election just wasn’t ever going to matter.

Yeah, it’s annoying that we just gave the country to Trump, but nobody was ever going to fight for it. This fall to fascism was started decades ago. We’re just seeing the end result.

Why wouldn’t they? The ADL has never had a problem with fascism, they’re one of it’s staunchest supporters.
