It’s only a matter of time before the open source stuff gets those features too, if people want them. There’s plenty of decent open source generative AI out there. I’m sure people can find creative ways to incorporate them.

To make you even more jealous, the 100Mbps I pay for tests as that, both up and down. For $48/month, no billing shenanigans. I had 1Gbps for a bit and it was testing near gigabit ethernet’s theoretical maximum, both up and down. Fiber to the rack is kind of awesome. Oh and when I call for tech support, I get somebody local. I’ve actually gotten one of the owners before. And they do a yearly Halloween party/customer appreciation day. Talking with one of the owners, it’s like he practically expects that people are going to be downloading those 4k Linux isos.

You’d probably like what I had before - awful DSL. I was near the maximum limit for DSL. The technician said the line could do 15Mbps. I usually ended up around 12. And I was the lucky one. Some of my neighbors were like 1.5. So glad to dump Centurylink.

I’m out in the country in Colorado. I have a small local ISP. I can get 10Gb if I want it. I have 100Mb because that’s all I need. Honestly, for most people, I really don’t know what you’d do with 25Gb. Even 10Gb is tough for alot of home users. The equipment is out there and not even that expensive, but its also not something most people own. Most people who own that sort of stuff are either home labbers or tech enthusiasts. And even if most people did, they would rarely use it to its full potential. For most people 2.5Gb is far more practical. Oddly enough it can be harder and more expensive to get your hands on than 10Gb because it’s just starting to really penetrate the consumer market, where 10Gb was common in datacenters for a long time, so used equipment is quite reasonable.

The biggest issue with ISPs in the US is that you have legacy players entrenched in a market and unwilling to spend the money to do upgrades. The main reason I have what I have is because a local company saw an opportunity to go into a space others were failing badly at and used a state grant to help fund the buildout. Soon, I may have a second option because my electric co-op is working on their own build. Since they answer to their members and not the stock market, now that fiber is cheap, they can build this stuff widely. We need more of all that.

And don’t forget the Network Addon Mod for Sim City 4. Improves traffic simulation and adds a whole bunch of new sorts of transportation stuff. It’s really the expansion pack Sim City 4 never had.

Sounds good to me. Size 9 works great for that kind of therapy.

If you’re stupid enough to install that on your phone, you deserve whatever it is that you get. I’m surprised it doesn’t periodically send your browsing history to the fuhrer for inspection. Wouldn’t want those sheep getting the wrong thoughts.

I wouldn’t say users are stupid to still be using Reddit. There’s still alot more activity there and alot of subs still haven’t switched over yet. But if they start requiring identity verification, I think we’ll see alot more switching. Right now, I do both to get the best of both worlds. If I have to give them my identity, they get cut out.

The good news is that if the fediverse gets an influx of Redditors, maybe we’ll see some of those niches pop up here too. Reddit’s impending identity theft coupled with the insane enforcement of rule 1 they’ve been doing lately is what got me to make my account here.

I mean, I got a 3 day ban (R1) for joking that we should shoot robot dogs guarding AI datacenters. It’s literally not one of the categories that is even supposed to apply - it’s neither a person, nor a place, nor some kind of animal. And that was my second account after my first got banned for similar sorts of jokes (yes, some were people, all were obviously jokes). Yeah, they’re going crazy overboard with enforcement on that. Subreddits need to start moving over now.

Yep, go hunting for deals on Craigslist, Marketplace, garage sales, etc and you can get some great stuff for cheap. I don’t think I paid over $100 each (in some cases, alot less) for my treadmill, elliptical, weight machine, stair climber, or recumbent exercise bike.

That’s part of why I made my account here. Might as well start getting familiar with the alternative. That and the mods on Reddit are out of control handing out bans for jokes about violence. Like the other day, I joked we should shoot robot dogs and got handed a site wide 3 day ban.
