Great short story called Unauthorized Bread Abt that exact thing, it’s a weirdly realistic look at what a dystopian corporate future would look like

It is because the company can claim u opted to use their service so they can make whatever rules they want, and the company has nothing to lose by pushing the legal limits bc the company is a person so none of the ceos or board members will ever be held responsible. Welcome to capitalism unchecked

I just feel like they verify it in the dumbest ways. I’m tryna log into Outlook from my phone and the verification goes to… my phone. Clearly whoever is breaking into my phone app has my phone!
