  • The GPUs from these data centers are virtually useless for end users. Even worse than the bitcoin ones, because at least a lot of bitcoin GPUs were consumer cards with a custom BIOS that could be reflashed. The ones in data centers are more dedicated l solutions as the companys building these data centers are much bigger.

The big question will be if Nvidia and AMD will survive the bubble burst.

  • I don’t think you understood what I was trying to say:

The difference is that companys wont do the skippable ads by themselves. Each country will have to do their own legislation to mandate this. Even if Europe would do similiar legislation to Vietnam, YouTube would still show full ads in other countries because they make them way more money.

Which is quite the difference to hardware mandates like USB-C, where a few countries can basically set it as mandatory and the manufacturers will roll it out for all countries because its easier and cheaper to manufacture one model than multiple different versions.

It makes no sense for Apple to produce one iPhone with USB-C and one with lightning financially. But it makes a lot of sense for YouTube to show unskippable ads in every country that allows it to make more money.

I hate to break it to you, but we live in a time where the average users uses ChatGPT or Gemini instead of Google or Wikipedia to get information. Most of my coworkers use AI at least to some degree, even the technically more advanced users.

As much as I hate this, we can‘t just ignore it as if this wouldn‘t be the case. We are already in the Dead-Internet-Times and it will only get worse unless the bubble bursts, but even then we won‘t be at a point that we were at before this all started.
