Not really, in this case they are equating actions Trump took to overturn his election loss as official duties. It’s definitely a messy part of the law, but if you bundle the actions taken to bring down a governmental system with those taken in the administration of that system you’re probably only trying to help bring it down.

I have Nvidia, the actual experience of driver updating and installation on Nobara was seamless, it just has a setup tool that detects the card and downloads the drivers. The same was true for other peripherals, my razer keyboard and mouse were easy to setup, there was a tool for my XBOX controller.

The recommendation to get AMD is reasonable for new builds, but it’s also one of those little issues. I’m just not willing to give up my 4080 for a less capable piece of hardware. But again, I didn’t have any real issues, even VRR and dual monitors worked fine. Ray tracing was working in Steam games, but I couldn’t figure out how to get it running for my GOG games and whatnot. Like I said, it’s so close to being ready for daily driving, but not my personal use case.

I spent a few months last year running Nobara. I’m back on Windows unfortunately. There are a ton of games that ran just fine, but there’s also a lot of little issues. For example, in Grim Dawn I couldn’t type in chat, in Pathfinder WotR I simply couldn’t get mods to work, STALKER Anomaly simply wouldn’t load. Then there was the big issue of my mouse cursor dropping below full screen games. Still there, but not visible. The only fix I could use was to restart the computer.

It’s tantalizingly close to ready, and if you don’t care about modding it probably already is. For me it just didn’t work out, yet.

Israel is committing genocide, Hamas would like to commit genocide. Stop picking teams when both teams are filling the scoreboard with atrocities. The people who deserve amplification are the Israeli and Palestinian civilians threatened by the activities of the military factions on both sides.

I am using Nobara, which is a Fedora based gaming distro. I definitely do not have to reboot for updates to software outside of system updates to the OS specifically. Updating Discord, Firefox, Steam, Heroic Launcher, Signal, etc does not require a reboot. Something sounds amiss. I am running straight Fedora on my Surface Pro and same story there, basically restart for system upgrades only.

I am, yes. Are you referring to the disappearing mouse cursor thing, because that’s really annoying, but I hadn’t seen any mention of it being linked to Nvidia. It seemed more Proton related. I tried several fixes I found and none worked. There was a few suggestions to switch to XOrg (?) But when I tried that I was locked at 60fps and couldn’t use VRR.

Anyways, I’d say that’s been my most frustrating issue.

I’m mostly a newbie to Linux, I’ve been using it as a main gaming rig for several months and only Nobara. I hear often that AMD is hassle free, but I’m using Nvidia and honestly I’ve had no roadblocks. I started with a 2080ti and have since moved to a 4080, no hassles. There is a built in updater and it automatically downloads the newest driver packages. They are always a version or so behind the latest Windows set but meh. Switching on gSync was as simple as toggling VRR for my 144hz monitor.

The one thing that I needed to look up was getting ray tracing running. There was additional stuff I needed to add in Steam (copy paste from the post I found), and then RTX was up and running.

Like I say, I definitely don’t know better than the people saying AMD is a smart choice, but I don’t think people necessarily need to worry that their Nvidia system is a roadblock to switching to Linux.

I’m sure there is some cool technical stuff going on here, but I have always been confused as to why anyone wants to have their game simulate the symptoms of a concussion. Then again I am a lens flare tolerator, so what do I know.

I have tried a few solutions I’ve seen in various Steam forum posts, and asked for advice on the Discord for Nobara. I’m a Linux newbie though and I don’t have much knowledge to sort stuff like this out. I have also been having the disappearing cursor issue in some Steam games. Again, can’t track down a solution that works, though I’ve tried a few things. My overall experience with Linux has been great, and I almost never boot Windows anymore, but there are some issues for sure.

That’s understandable. I think my take on Galaxy has always been that it’s just a utility for managing your library, because they don’t do DRM on any games they sell, they don’t need to have a client like Steam does. That’s a big reason why I don’t have an issue with their client Linux support as their client isn’t a requirement to use your library of games. I will also say that Heroic runs better than the Steam client for me. I get a lot of weird flickering and stuff with the Steam launcher. Additionally it downloads some games insanely slowly. I have tried different servers and a number of the fixes I’ve found online to no avail. I bought BG3 on Steam and ended up waiting overnight for it to download. Heroic doesn’t have that issue at all and can take advantage of my connection speed. Obviously those are issues that don’t affect everyone though.

I link my GoG account to Heroic Launcher. It works just fine, updates included, store front included. I’m on Nobara Linux.

From what I’ve heard, the Steam version also lacks DRM. Once you’ve downloaded it you can close Steam and just launch the game with the exe. Obviously GOG or Steam is still handy for updates.

I think that news organisations should create their own distribution instances. The BBC has started to set up their own Mastodon server. I would definitely prefer to be able to create my own news feed, direct from source, and selected for greater criteria than how many rage clicks a headline is likely to garner.
