Can’t necessarily make it dumb, but you can change how the smart works without buying a whole new TV by getting something like a Roku stick or any other device similar that runs on android that you can then hack/modify to run side loaded apps and such to get around the bullshit built into the TV.
Of course if you’re already planning on getting a new TV you could just get one that runs on Android already and do the same thing. Basically if it runs on Android, there are tons of tools to make it not suck all over GitHub.
I didn’t mean to imply it’s not also concerning tech. I think it would fit in both spheres. Just commenting on the whole “stop making trans people political” notion, like the issue isn’t and hasn’t been political the entire time.
They’re trying to make laws to hurt trans people, and it’s a hot issue among the populace… That is the very definition of political.
That’s the one!
I started watching a dude the other day who put up one video so far chronicling a journey of using these kind of brain cell computer chips to make something that can play Doom.
I may be remembering wrong but I think it might be someone who worked on that pong thing… He briefly talked about it in the video I mention above.
I really can’t wait for the second part. The first one was mostly about how he set up the growth medium and fed the cells, as well as showing off the chips and what problems they ran into so far doing things the way they were doing them. Next one is supposed to get more into the doing stuff and I am hella interested in that.
I haven’t seen a good AMA on that sub for over 5 years already. This, to me, is like hearing that someone shot my already dead dog. Upsetting, but I had already moved on.
The places I used to hang out with PHPBB or similar forums never really had problems with bots. And I’m at least pretty sure they were popular places. Penny-Arcade, Something Awful, NewGrounds, eBaums World…
They also weren’t a problem for small users either. Not only was there no incentive, they didn’t necessarily get discovered by web crawlers. I remember wondering why my websites never showed up on search engines when I first started fucking around with webpages, web hosting, networks, etc. I hosted the server, I had a domain name, I was online and could access my site from other computers solely through the internet; but it never came up on Yahoo or Dogpile and I didn’t know why. The first time I ever found my own site on a search engine, it was using a hosting site like Geocities. And that was after Google came out and I was getting archived versions of the first website I ever made.
Gold is a better conductor than copper. So they actually are better cables.
I have hopped on just to see what /r/all looks like a few times, and the quality of content has taken a major nose dive, along with the average votes being significantly smaller for the top posts of the day.
Is funny to me.
The telemetry thing is why I almost always turn that off in every program that has the option to disable it. You can really see the difference in a lot of games, especially online games, with just that 1 thing. It’s insane.
It just doesn’t make sense not to make them when it literally was the same process to make a RHD as a LHD vehicle. It doesn’t cost extra money or use extra parts. It’s just “oh this part goes on this side instead of this side.”
If they stopped making them entirely, it’s more than likely out of spite than any other reason.
Does the instance itself hold a record or database of content posted, too? Like, could a personal instance be used to archive your own posts and comments, even if made on another instance through your personal one’s account? That right there would be motivation to play with it for me. Well, that and the “because I can” thing.
Hold up… Why are they not making them with the proper configuration though? I used to work at Tesla’s Fremont plant and part of what I did required slightly different work depending on if the current thing on the line was supposed to be left or right-hand drive.
The only thing that sucked about having my own PHPBB forum was the lack of actual users to communicate with.
But it looked and did everything just the way I wanted, so that was nice. 🥹
I just hop over to another instance federated with lemmy.world so the content never stops. The fact that one instance can go down but the idea and collected communities remain up on others that are all connected together is tits, man.
This is the 3rd time I’ve seen someone mention they run their own instance. The other two specifically mentioned how it was for just them, and I’m wondering what the benefit is going that extra mile for just yourself. Is it worth it? Or is it simply a case of “because I fucking can?” 🤔
How long has Lemmy actually been around? I only even heard about it because of the Reddit shit, and I had been actively looking for a replacement for almost 2 years.
I planned on getting my dad a sound bar for his TV on his birthday because the TV he uses, the plastic grill over the speaker vibrates something fierce and it sounds like absolute garbage any time something with any amount of bass plays. But maybe I can just glue some rocks to it 🤔
