Tmux has probably some specific features Kitty won’t do as good as a native multiplexer? (sorry I’m not the right person to ask this question :s) but It has the features I’m looking for without the need to install one.

It was quite cumbersome to configure a terminal + a multiplexer on MacOS to behave how I liked it. Kitty solved this issue while being fast, simple and a lot of customization in one single app.

One feature that was really important, copy/past over SSH with Micro which involved quite a hacky thing with iTerm2 + Tmux.Also being able to split my windows, create tabs…

But as I said I have only basic use cases and can’t really say If Kitty’s multiplexing features are on par with Tmux. However, during my web search I read about a lot of people far more knowledge than myself who actually switch to kitty from Tmux without regrets !

Yeah Alacritty was my second pick, but after reading their documentation it seemed more for people accustomed to Vi and the like.

So yeah that’s not something I’m willing to spare some time right now, anyway I’m mostly doing some “sys admin” stuff in my homelab, so simple text editing in a simple terminal is a better fit in my workflow/learning process !

Kitty is probably the best terminal emulator I’ve ever tried out… It even made me drop Tmux as multiplexer on my stupid Mac !

I only have basic use case right now, nothing complex but customization seems way above others.

The full OSC52 integration with micro for copy/past over SSH and taking up the terminal clipboard was also a game changer (nearly dropped micro because of this…)

I only scratched the surface and have only basic usage and still I can’t believe one single person is behind this project (I think?).

Nothing beats the smell and touch of new physical books… Nothing and never !

Though, I do agree it’s maybe a bit better for our planet to read ebooks and the like :/

Yeah most seedboxers are just the new leechers of this generation… Keeping up their ratio about an unreasonable amount where they can leech everything they want without the need to give back…

They just stay for the necessary amount of time specified by their private tracker and leave the queue afterwards.

IMO seedboxes should have another rule associated to them… Straight to 1 month seeding time or get a hit&run warning !

This really looks great, I got a question though. As I understand it, it works based on your bash_history which can be very small or autodeleted after each poweroff for privacy & security reasons.

So it doesn’t work in that case. However, creating a file containing a list or array? Of commands could that be a possible way to implemented a similar behavior?

I’m asking because I’m not very proficient in any programming language but have done some small bash scripts here and there and quite interested in this functionality !

For my docker containers I use what’s up docker which not only alerts me when there is an update but also give a link to the changes, so I can have a look what’s happening !

For my system itself… Just doing sudo pacman -Syu. Though that’s not great, cause some updates can potentially break my EndeavourOS system… I keep sometimes an eye on the forum when I see some critical changes like the kernel itself or nvidia updates though.

The only thing I don’t install via that way is Firefox addons.

Any specific reason why? Yesterday I installed LibreWolf and saw at the same time a few addons in the AUR.

I get you ! And you’re right. It’s never to late though, until it is. We/they have been betrayed more than once by big tech and monopoly, so I think it’s justified to feel a bit anxious when something out of bound to user’s privacy/consent is implemented in the only real alternative we have right now…

I mean, sure Firefox is the only last bastion against big tech’s monopoly and all forks are depending on Firefox… So that’s not truely a real long term solution as alternative (If something is going to happen…). But as a long term Firefox user, I also have the feeling they are slowly following a dark/uncertain path.

Sure, right now it’s not that of a big deal, but what if in 3 years it becomes a big deal? Imagine a scenario where all web browsers become controlled by one single entity? Wouldn’t it be good to have an alternative? (Yeah there is Tor already) This is only possible in this kind of “hysteria” where some people take the lead before it’s too late, otherwise we will be stuck for years without any working solution, while depending on big data’s scrapper/hoarder riddled with ads and privacy invasive browsing…

Hope it make sense and that my arguments are somehow comprehensible? Not my first language so giving my best haha !

Just think about the Linux kernel, right now it’s the only best alternative to Windows/MacOS and everything is perfect. But what will happen in a few years when Linus steps down? Will it still be as good as today? Will big tech take a step into the kernel? Will it become the next Windows/MacOS? Who knows… That’s why alternatives are always a good thing to have before it’s too late !!

LibreWolf is great ! Coming from ArkenFox, I found LibreWolf’s override cfg a bit easier.

They also have a pacdiff cfg to see what changes from version to version without the need to roam arkenfoxes github repo for hours to find what changed or what to change.

I installed it yesterday to see how it goes :) If it doesn’t fit, will go back to Arkenfox.

I think the best thing to do is selfhosting your own instance :/ piped is doing a great job with their script to install with docker ! Yes I know this takes away the privacy feature allowing google to get your public IP and other annoying metadata… However all the rest works as expected !

It has some quirks right now though… But they are very close in solving the issue (already done with LibreTube ).

Most of the telemetry can be disabled in the Firefox settings. Some of the web services depend on some Mozilla domains so blocking all Mozilla domains will probably break a few things here and there?

Other than that, with the current situation, I would already think to switch to a Firefox fork or other alternative.

It really depends on your metadata/ directory structure. Even though navidrome doesn’t care of your directory structure it’s better to have everything neatly separated !

You can spin a docker compose (if you’re a bit acquainted with it) and simply point to your external drive containing your media, just to give it a try and see how it performs with your media files.

Just give it a try and see how it works, however I would wait for the new scanner update before upgrading fully to navidrome which would give some new long awaited functionalities like VA list of all artist.

Are you talking about docker containers? You should take a look at what’s up docker to maintain and keep track of your containers. I have approximately 20 containers and It was easier to keep track this way. If you’re more in the 50/100 range… Yeah this sounds a lot ! :o

I don’t even expose anything directly to the web (always accessible through a tunnel like wireguard) or have any important data to protect from AI or LLMs. But just giving the opportunity to fuck with them while they continuously harvest data from everyone is something I was already thinking off but didn’t knew how.
