People being brutal, people crying over critique isn’t “just how art goes”, and isn’t a universal experience. I would actually call it “abuse” instead.

You are probably thinking about Microsoft flight sim, which completely fails (and is the first “completely streamed” map). Out in the “real world”, you don’t have a fiber connection to stream gigabytes every hour.
Maalus@lemmy.worldto Not The Onion@lemmy.world•Elon Musk's robotaxi will have a human driver for 'safety' reasonsEnglish1·21 days agoDoes the taxi driver remember every sign in the city, every road and parking spot? No. They are humans - they remember the streets, some important spots that are confusing, maybe a couple of shortcuts. There is a huge difference between having a 3d map of everything in the city in the memory, and setting a GPS to an address, reading the signs as you go by and adhering to them. Also if self driving tech is to expand, you don’t go putting the entire world into memory - that’s not scaleable.

If it were still life painting only, why is this news? Why didn’t she change the background to a different one that didn’t have the watermelon? Why is there so much emotion surrounding it?
The truth is - a watermelon is a symbol for Palestine now. We organize watermelon parties in public parks and everyone knows what it is. Sure, it’s a celebration of culture, not political, generally just a party. But at the end of the day, it is a symbol too. Playing dumb doesn’t suddenly make people go “oh okay I guess this is just a watermelon”. People see a duck, hear a duck, think a duck.
Maalus@lemmy.worldto Not The Onion@lemmy.world•NHS nurse ordered to remove ‘antisemitic’ watermelon video call background launches legal actionEnglish2·23 days agoAll flags are inherrently political. A flag is the ultimate symbol for nationalism. Usually you shouldn’t display them in any context, especially in a job that makes you face people from different backgrounds, ethnicities or nations.
So yeah, I’d tell someone to take off the Ukraine background too, not for the “someone might be offended” reason
Maalus@lemmy.worldto Not The Onion@lemmy.world•NHS nurse ordered to remove ‘antisemitic’ watermelon video call background launches legal actionEnglish5·23 days agoAs with everything, it isn’t about the watermelon, it is about the symbol it represents. To anyone that doesn’t want to excuse / explain, a symbol represents something - in this case support for Palestine. So it is treated the exact same as if she had a Palestinian flag in the background. Especially because she is Palestinian.
The only idiotic part is the “antisemitic” thing, when 1. Palestinians are Semites too, 2. Supporting Palestine isn’t antisemitic.
I’d probably ask a person with a flag background to take it down too tbh, no matter if it was the Israeli flag, Palestinian, British or US. Just probably not for those reasons that they stated.

Grow up. She’s a murderer and deserves to rot in jail.
No, a human would just find an API that is publically available. And the fact that it knew the static class “Misc” means it knows the api. It just halucinated and responded with bullcrap. The entire concept can be summarized with “I want to color a player’s model in GAME using python and SCRIPTING ENGINE”.
I recently tried it for scripting simple things in python for a game. Yaknow, change char’s color if they are targetted. It output a shitton of word salad and code about my specific use case in the specific scripting jargon for the game.
It all based on “Misc.changeHue(player)”. A function that doesn’t exist and never has, because the game is unable to color other mobs / players like that for scripting.
Anything I tried with AI ends up the same way. Broken code in 10 lines of a script, halucinations and bullshit spewed as the absolute truth. Anything out of the ordinary is met with “yes this can totally be done, this is how” and “how” doesn’t work, and after sifting forums / asking devs you find out “sadly that’s impossible” or “we dont actually use cpython so libraries don’t work like that” etc.

Maalus@lemmy.worldto A Boring Dystopia@lemmy.world•Judge finds police acted reasonably in shooting New Mexico man while at wrong address315·2 months agoYou have a right to hold a gun in your home. You don’t have a right to point said gun at people at your door. No matter if this was a cop or not.
Seriously, people lose all common sense once cops are involved because acab. When the reality often is “you are trying to defend a dude that pulled a gun on people who were at his door”.
Maalus@lemmy.worldto A Boring Dystopia@lemmy.world•Judge finds police acted reasonably in shooting New Mexico man while at wrong address324·2 months agoHe grabbed a handgun before answering the door. It doesn’t matter if he pointed it, if he waved it, or shown them how cool he looked with it. You don’t open the door with a gun in hand. What’s the A to Z of doing that? If it’s robbers, do you think you opening the door with a gun makes them magically disappear? What if it’s literally anyone else, because why would a robber knock on the door?
You call it a lack of privilege and I call it stupidity. Grabbing a gun means “I’m about to use deadly force”. Grabbing a gun to a situation that isn’t known to you is escalating everything to 11. As I said. If you are scared, you don’t open the door. Someone breaks in, sure, use that deadly force. But this isn’t that, this is a flashlight being pointed at a dude who knowingly got something that can end another person’s life, who overreacted and literally pulled a gun on cops.
He uses it to homeschool them
