I literally walked multiple non-technical users through it when it happened because I have moved some of my friends and family to Linux. I literally consider Debian to be less functionally stable than arch because of Apt. I’ve had apt completely eviscerate systems and then just bail out leaving you with a system that has a completely empty /bin with seemingly no easy way to recover.

Meanwhile pacman has literally never done that, and even on systems that became horrifically broken due to literal data corruption I was able to just chroot in, download a static built pacman, and reinstall all native packages with a single command… It’s nuts how much more reliable and repairable arch ia but people act like it’s frail just because it gets updates more than once every century

Getting good is an alternative, coding will always be a trade between ease and quality. Super high level languages are super easy and accessible but the tradeoff is you have no idea what is actually happening on the backend nor much control of it and it requires bloated web engines to manage and run.

The vast majority of game engines already have seamless cross platform support. Nothing need be done beyond selecting your target when compiling. Use Vulkan instead of dx11/12 and good to go

Maybe it’s been improved, i haven’t used slack in many years now. But i remember it having hilarious issues with state tracking. Trying to go back to old messages would fail half the time it would just scroll up to some random midway point then give up.

Would see notifications of new messages in a channel but didn’t see anything new until reloading slack. Based on what you are saying sounds like they fixed that. Which is good, however I’m willing to bet it still wants 1GB+ of memory just to display some text so bloated/slow still applies ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

And no I’m not one of those “just use irc” people. Telegram supports all the modern stickers, files, audio, etc but it’s fast and surprisingly light. But it’s also written in native C++ so that’s more expected

Slow, bloated, buggy af. Name one electron application that doesn’t struggle with state tracking over a long session, even just for simple shit like chat. The browser wasn’t supposed to be a real time application, no amount of trying to bolt it on will ever make it ok

Seafile is another to check. It’s focused entirely on the file storage aspect and doesn’t really do all the other stuff next Cloud does but I greatly prefer it

My point was everyone fucks up the orders. Regardless of knowledge. You’re being asked to work at an incredible pace during rush hour and you do the same thing hundreds of times per day. Your going to default to whatever is the most common purely out of muscle memory not lack of knowledge.

Like when I ask for a quarter pounder Deluxe which is supposed to come with the tomatoes and lettuce but I end up just getting a quarter pounder even though the receipt says Deluxe. They aren’t stupid it’s just that 99% of the time it’s just the quarter pounder and it’s muscle memory they didn’t even realize they fucked it up.

If given proper education and training? Yeah sure even the stupidest people you know are capable of learning at the end of the day. But most people have not the means and they are increasingly discouraged from even trying since we constantly hear about people with expensive high-end degrees ultimately just starting at the bottom like everybody else

I mean they likely would because employees regularly fuck up my order. I don’t really go to fast food anymore but when I do it’s almost inevitable that there’s at least one minor fuck up on my order even when I try to be very very clear on my order.

I used to have a matrix home server but ended up just using an existing one in the long run. I would actually love an alternative to Twitter, mastodon just never really took off. This looks really good but i legitimately have nothing but problems with bluesky app. It’s performance is horrendous and I’ve watched it be horrendous on other people’s phones so it’s not just mine.

To be a little bit more specific I can easily trigger the behavior by let’s say browsing a specific art tag and then attempting to favorite multiple posts in a row. After I favorite one or two it’ll suddenly lock up stop accepting input other than letting me continue to scroll and I have to wait until it processes whatever it’s processing and then all the inputs suddenly catch up at once
