Yeah I am thinking about how a implementation for a single acc for the whole fediverse could work.

Maybe a service with just handles authentication of users and gives the result to mastodon, pixelfed etc.

Like the login with google on websites.

Maybe that could be an application for block chain. The ledger has a the usernames and keys that you need to verify with you privat key.

So you log into mastodon with uid and privat key. Mastodon looks into the blockchain ledger and validates from there. If is is valid, you are loged in.

I think you don’t understand what I am saying. I don’t compare addblock with a smart ai, I compare addblock with glaze.

You said that because something can be trained on glaze it makes it useless and I disagree with that because glaze can react to that adoption.

Like it is happening with addblock vs YouTube.

If we follow this logic addblock is useless, cybersecurety is useless and a bunch of other stuff which evokes a countermeasure are useless.

I think the question arose from a scenario I was imaging in which a instance goes down and all or some of the content is lost.

Decentralization, I thought would be if all the content gets posted to one instance and then every other instance is just a mirror of that one. In other words, every Lemmy instance has all the content all the time.

But you can’t really? If I remember correctly you still lose all the posts, followers and pretty much everything that you would expect to keep.

Technically you keep your account but let’s be honest, you don’t in the sense people want.

Maybe my knowledge is dated but that is what I recall about moving accounts.

How is mastodon not just a bunch of centralized platforms?

Sure the servers communicate with each other but the content is still just on one of them. Goes the server, so goes the content.
