Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Politicians in California want to remove bike lanes from the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge. During the public hearing, a top official was driving his carEnglish
15·3 months agoNo, it is not legal. This bike path is part of the Bay Trail, which was enacted by State legislation, and served as mitigation for environmental damage done by Caltrans highway work. The BCDC was specifically created by the legislature to ensure maximum feasible public access to the Bay. So voting to close the path violates any number of laws and policies.
As for driving while distracted by the phone…yeah that’s also illegal.

The point is that the US has gathered enough evidence to get indictments against them. Germany has access to that same evidence and has very similar laws that were violated – but has done basically nothing.
The Board had discussions about how to stonewall California. US prosecutors have filed charges against the CEO but Germany won’t extradite.
They are all guilty as fuck.
Despite what the headline says, no execs went to jail. The two who were punished with jail terms were middle management.
Martin Winterkorn, the CEO, will probably avoid any serious consequences.

68·7 months agoAs Daisy was laid to rest alongside Kayley in a modest Mennonite churchyard, her father hopes her story sparks reflection — if not on vaccines, then on care, compassion, and the urgent need to protect the vulnerable.
‘She was my little girl,’ he says softly. ‘And they let her down.’
No, you let her down.

NCTD in San Diego recently had a meeting about a proposed H2 railcar project for the Sprinter line. The H2 fuel costs are running 4-16x more expensive relative to what was originally planned. So nice to see scarce public transit dollars funding H2 research 🙄
