Even if they did so, isn’t Firefox entirely open source? At least their work could be forked (though I agree if they don’t have the resources, hardly anyone else could make it)

We should all probably start donating to Firefox. Isn’t Google their main source of income?
There might come a time when they prefer to gut Firefox, forcing Mozilla to either reject uBlock Origin or die (or they could simply pull the plug on funding knowing they’ll earn more when people go back to Chrome-based browsers)
You don’t say, Sherlock
I finally had a minute to try it out and unfortunately it does not seem to change anything on my 2020 Mac+Intel (the GPU load skyrockets when I watch videos on YouTube)
Well, you’re right in principle, but with my (old, but current) Mac+Intel configuration Firefox is not as sleek as Chrome and also often Firefox turns the fan on while Chrome doesn’t (it may just be that Google is bricking Firefox when you’re on YouTube, for example)
Anyhow, I’m trying to use Firefox as much as I can (I’ve always done so), but it’s always been true it was a better experience to use Chrome on my setup (and I’ve never used Safari)
Edit: why the downvotes? To teach me a lesson? I said he’s right, but I do have an actual problem and cannot yet make the full move (and am going to check out the suggestions below. Thanks!)
I almost feel like there’s an answer there for you, but I can’t put my finger on it.
However, last night I had a vision about th singer of Motorhead. I think it means something…
When I receive things like this, I make sure to open Gmail from within Firefox with all extensions meant to defend me (like NoScript, unlock origin, privacy badger, https everywhere) and then I hover over the gigantic button “check my activity” and see if it leads to a accounts.google.com link.
Either way, I then copy the link address without clicking on it, and open it in a private window to see what happens. If it’s a scam, the page it opens has a legit looking, but wrong google address (aka, it cannot really end with google.com). Then I just stop having fun and don’t continue nor type anything
What does it look like in your case?
“TurboTax must die”
That would be the perfect title of a multi billion dollar franchise about rebels from the IRS tryijg to thwart known scammers from Intuit.
I’ve seen all the movies from 1 to 7 at the theater (4,5,6 when they were remastered right before Episode 1). I like the old 4,5,6 though they’re not perfect, but they are enjoyable. I tolerated 1,2,3 and applaud their existence since they made me discover Mr Plinkett and Red Letter Media. When I saw Episode 7 I had to stop. It felt too much of an insult to the viewer’s intelligence (it wasn’t enough to have two Death Stars in Episodes 4 and 6, they had to have a Mega Super Death Star in Episode 7… But this was very much not the only awful thing about the movie). I’ve watched Episode 8 on an airplane and I still have to watch episode 9
Operation Mindcrime is a gem!
Silence!
Don’t tell the holy secret to the world!
When I look for things on Gmail on my laptop, I get detailed and complete results, when I do the same on the Gmail app, it seems like I get all results up to maybe two years ago (and it doesn’t show the rest). This second thing is really annoying, but at least on the computer version I always get everything
I was very excited to get an invite shortly after it’s opened and I still have all the emails that tell me my friend XYZ accepted my invitation to Gmail.
It was a time when getting a Gmail invitation wasn’t trivial.
Here’s a video recalling how exciting it was to have a Gmail.
Nowadays it’s different and possibly less good, but searching in Gmail is still very easy, which is awesome
It’s currently late and I am on my phone, so I can’t research this too well, but for example this thread and official Microsoft link discusses th Adrozek malware which injects you with unwanted ads and information directly from your browser.
Sure, it’s not a virus in the older sense of the term where someone either burns your drive or takes over your computer and locks you out asking for a ransom, but it’s still piloting you unsuspectingly and you don’t want it.
I dislike the fact that “ads” can also include crapware being injected into my computer (viruses, tracking cookies, mysterious scripts, etc).
Ah, wow. So some exams are happening online, even though classes are in person! There goes a combination I had not thought about. It is annoying to still need Respondus though, even if I understand why
Interesting (and annoying). I imagined that most exams went back to the usual pen and paper or laboratory, but there were tests written on laptops and in class long before the pandemic. I had forgotten about those!
Wait, are universities still using Respondus?
I feel for you. It was used a lot during the beginning of the pandemic, but I thought it was dropped by now.
You’re right about Sci-Hub because of their Indian lawsuit which is very important to them, but I didn’t know that Anna’s Archive was a repository of scientific journals. Is it? I know Library Genesis (or LibGen) has a lot of scientific textbooks, but I didn’t know it had papers. Does it?
Anyhow, Anna’s Archive and LibGen are super awesome too!
Who told you to tell the truth?
You had no right!
