That is not convenient at all, but some folks don’t want to downplay 1000+$ and they really want an iphone or whatever. It seems to me Apple and Samsung want to get their fair share of that (still sucks though cause its all in the “you don’t own anything”)
I mean lots of mobile providers have been providing phones as part of their subscription model, that has going since the 2000s.
