Just CD’s? That’s just an USB but worse
Sweet, I love it. Best form of physical media next to the record, but records have gotten damn expensive. Keep it goin!
I pulled out the CD Burner and we’re gonna buy a pack of CDs next time the kids are here so I can show my youngest the ancient technology she heard about 😂 she’s got a CD player she jams with all the time, obsessed with the damn thing, so it’ll be fun to show her how we used to do it. Her jaw dropped when I told her about the books of burned CDs we had, all downloaded from Napster and limewire til torrents finally came around big time and we could get discographies at a time.
What? Optical discs are a horrible storage medium. One slight scratch on the film and the whole thing can be ruined.
Hard drives are a horrible medium. One drop and all your data is gone 😉. Discs are actually superior for data longevity if youre really hardcore. I dont use them for that myself.
And if they get scratched you resurface. Some of y’all didnt grow up with discs or didnt take care of them. Unless you mean the top film, which is valid, but ive never once had that issue. Unless youre knifing the tops of your discs

In handling thousands of CDs in my life I never once have scratched the top. Are you offroading a dirtbike while jamming to limp bizkit on your portacd or what?!
I did specify the film when I talked about scratches. I grew up with CDs and had plenty that were ruined by a scratch on the film, often from being dropped while in a CD player or accidentally left out.
Optical discs are not a superior form for long term storage by any stretch of the imagination. Most consumer CDs only last 5-20 years. The film can start delaminating if they’re not stored in ideal conditions.
I have CDs that are 30-40 years old and play just fine. CD-Rs may have more issues (though all my 20-year old burned discs still play), but commercial discs can last a long time if you keep them in a case of some kind and don’t leave them in humid conditions. They probably won’t last centuries, but I expect most of my CDs will probably outlive me.
i got rid of my dvd collection once streaming became a thing, but not my dvd collection – maybe it’ll appreciate too. lol
