Why aren’t grads syndicalizing‽ 🖕 monopsonies. get together and outcompete them.
Like honestly what are you supposed to do? Those I know are either going total striver and molding themselves to the every whim of a fake ass financialized economy, or giving up. Schemes and scams, etc. College degrees are less of an education than a very expensive job certification telling your HR email job “I am not stupid,” sold to you by a giant real estate company that also hires professors.
It’s not even a question of upward mobility but where you’re supposed to find employment that pays non starvation wages and won’t be squeezed out once you learn it. Niche trades maybe? But what’s the opportunity for advancement there.

Education is useful in the workforce if it’s targeted. Traditionally a college education for most people doesn’t pay out for up to 10-15 years post-graduation.
Honestly unless somebody is paying your way through, for many fields it’s better working for a few years then going back to school in your late 20’s. Then you can get a degree in the field that you are actually working in.
“Entry level” jobs have been “Degree + 2-3 years experience” since I graduated college and it’s only gotten worse in the past 25 years.
For the 10 years post graduation I made less money than I did driving trucks during college
