  • His bill would also require a review process for autonomous or semi-autonomous weapon systems, in addition to barring the military from using AI to monitor individuals for constitutional activities, removing human involvement from nuclear weapons deployment and purchasing personal data on Americans from third parties in some cases.

I didn’t expect this bill to be an improvement over what the Trump administration currently does, but it seems it actually is. Especially that last part.

(Regarding the headline, that’s more smoke and mirrors. I don’t think any AI company wants to build a tool that kills people, not because they don’t want to, but because they know the responsibility would rest on them rather than the military. And they want the money in the murder sector with none of the responsibility.)

  • Erosion of public opinion has always been the plan. I did a double take recently when I found out that back in 2017, Mozilla adding telemetry was something that people actually were offended by. Unfortunately, people stopped being offended by it, and nobody noticed that the telemetry experts were from the Facebook company, and soon that innocent data collection turned into an ad network.

We need to go back to treating these people the same way Google Glass users were treated back in the 2010s. They were Glassholes then. They’re surveillance freaks today. They should be shunned by society. The nicest thing you should do to somebody wearing these surveillance glasses is to politely tell them that you are uncomfortable around their weird behavior.
