Fuck AI@lemmy.world•Financial Expert Says OpenAI Is on the Verge of Running Out of MoneyEnglish
14·2 months agoIf we could cause a mass wave of subscription cancellations we could finish them off. I know no on here is subscribing to them but if you know anyone else who is urge them to cancel their ChatGPT/OpenAI subscriptions. If you have the chance to provide feedback for why you canceled be sure to mention you’re unhappy OpenAI donated $25 million to Trump and unhappy about the ads.

Technology@lemmy.world•Jeff Bezos said the quiet part out loud — hopes that you'll give up your PC to rent one from the cloudEnglish
28·2 months agoThe only thing people should be giving up is their Amazon Prime subscriptions and AWS hosting. You’re very likely getting ripped off and overcharged if you use AWS. Also although I recommend ordering from other websites if you have no choice but to use Amazon you don’t need Prime for free shipping, just wait until you have enough stuff in your cart such that you’re over the free shipping threshold. Don’t order unnecessary stuff to get over the threshold.

Leopards Ate My Face@lemmy.world•“This is what I voted for?”: Trump supporter loses farm and income to tariffs, only to be mocked onlineEnglish
6·2 months agoI know it’s tempting to mock people who are leaving MAGA but actually the better thing to do is seize the opportunity to educate them and hopefully get them to never vote Republican ever again.
I remember Brave was popular among MAGA-type people during Trump’s first term. I suspect it’s likely the same.
The logo has a striking resemblance to one I remember seeing on a big pro-Trump community. It’s described here https://www.vox.com/2019/8/29/20838289/trump-fascist-lion-head-bull-testicles-video-twitter basically the logo is associated with Mussolini.
In addition if you check the Wikipedia article you’ll notice this:
In August 2016, the company had received at least US$7 million in angel investments from venture capital firms, including Peter Thiel’s Founders Fund, Propel Venture Partners, Pantera Capital, Foundation Capital and the Digital Currency Group.[13]
Moreover some right-wing type people expressed their “solidarity” with Brendan Eich for his anti LGBT stance so they used Brave.

12·2 months agoFor what it’s worth I read the whole thing in what felt like one or two minutes and I don’t think I’m a particularly fast reader. I think it looks longer because there are not many blank lines. It seems well written but I guess I do slightly get that AI feeling too, it just might be because he/she is a good writer so now people think good writing is AI, sad it’s coming down to this.

Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft Office has been renamed to “Microsoft 365 Copilot app”English
20·2 months agoI think it’s time to make a serious push into getting people to boycott Microsoft along with OpenAI. Windows 11 is now a bloated surveillance operating system and Office 365 raised their prices to pay for an AI feature based on OpenAI’s LLMs. OpenAI donated $25 million to Trump.

2·2 months agoWe must not be silent. Speak out against this and urge as many people as possible to boycott Twitter and xAI. Keep spreading the word: Elon is a pedo.
Does it really matter if someone who likely works hard all day for little money finds a little joy in life? Really it’s the billionaires we need to focus on and by taking on OpenAI we’re fighting the people who are the real problem in this world.
I do a little bit understand where you’re coming from. Maybe someone who owns a RTX 4090 doesn’t need the 5090 but how many people really do that?

32·2 months agoIt’s hard to avoid right now, particularly if you’re a user of Microsoft ecosystem products.
Solution:
Windows -> Linux
Office 365 -> Libreoffice to replace most of Office 365 and to replace Outlook consider Thunderbird or Seamonkey
Edge/Chrome -> Firefox or a fork of Firefox.

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•Easy Ways You Can Fight AI and Save MoneyEnglish
6·2 months agoIf the price is equal then it’s still best to buy from another platform. Often other sellers use better packaging than Amazon so your order is more likely to arrive in good condition when it makes it to your home. And you’re supporting business who are very likely less evil.
My personal experience is actually sometimes other websites can be cheaper despite the policy. You just have to check.
Another thing I should say but forgot to mention in my post is that buying used can be a great way to save money and avoid buying on Amazon.
